Hi everyone - newbie post: I'm interested in toy manufacturers marketing products (figures, maps etc.) to coincide with actual military campaigns, and in particular the 1898 Sudan campaign. I can see lots of figures on sale for this campaign, but assumed these will be later reissues. My question is, how rare would an original set be, how would you identify it was original, and what kind of price might such a set go for? If there's a reference work that answers all these points, I'd appreciate a steer. Cheers!

Most if not all of the first issues have been retired, and what you see on eBay is more then likely what is left in dealers' stock inventory. You may pick up the rarer pieces from European market, but you will be paying a premium on each item plus exorbitant shipping. Treefrog has an excellent store of early issues, plus try searching in the Forum's For Sale category by members, or in the Store's Consignment category. Look also under John Jenkins Designs for Sudan pieces.
