Much confusion and many arguments have been had about the scale (size) of First Legion WWII figures. Many have stated that they were the same scale(size) as W. Britains WWII figures and thus had to be 1/32 scale and not 1/30 scale. Well it turns out that in fact First Legion and W. Britains latest generation of WWII figures are the same scale as many have stated; however the scale is 1/30(60MM) not 1/32(54MM). W.Britains WWII figures have grown over the years from 54MM to 58-60MM, much like several other Toy Soldier manufacturers figures have grown from 60MM to 65-68MM or 1/28 scale! The proof lies in measurements! Treefrog posted a photo of a recent W.Britains Fallschirmjager #25016 in their W. Britains catalog section with a Millimeter scale adjacent to the figure designating a 60MM figure height; top of base to top of head. The same height as most First Legion WWII figures. First legion and W.Britians now both make the same scale/size figures; 1/30 (60MM). The W. Britains website states that all W. Britains matte figures are 1/30 scale 58MM size. The Treefrog photo verifies this statement.
Confusion as to the true W. Britains WWII matte figure scale is caused by the fact that many vendors of W. Britains figures designate them as being 1/32 scale 54MM tall; which until the last 5 years they were, but no longer are! Figarti figures started out as 1/32 scale as did K&C; this was the standard Toy Soldier scale/size established by Britains over 100 years ago. Figarti figures moved intentionaly to 1/30 scale and this change was advertised by Figarti and the product boxes marked as 1/30. Hopefully W. Britains will do the same to avoid confusion between the old 1/32 scale products and new 1/30 scale products. The First legion scale claims stand validated and vindicated. W. Britains can now be considered to be compatable with the fine Armor in true 1/30 scale from Figarti, First legion and Thomas Gunn; as are the First Legion WWII figures!
The new W. Britains 8.8cm Flak 36 will be in 1/30 scale as will future Artillery releases and hopefully Armor. Good Times!

Good News Indeed for those of us who care about accurate scale and compatibility of figures and AFV's:salute::.....Good Times.{sm4}

Peter Reuss said that Ken Osen measured some current production W. Britains and verified that they are 1/30 not 1/32 as widely advertised. Oddly enough they seem to have been 1/30 scale 58-60mm for some time and it went unreported. Does anyone know when and why W.Britains changed scale? I know as late as 2006 their Armor and Artillery pieces were marked as 1/32 scale!
Several well known vendors still state on their websites that W. Britains are 1/32 scale 54mm! Very confusing situation!

Does anyone know if Ready4Action is true 1/32 scale or closer to 1/30? They advertise as 1/32, but I thought I remembered a claim they were compatible with W. Britains. Does this mean they are compatible with FL, as well?

From what I'd read or seen Larry, they seem like they might be somewhere between 54 and 60 mm.

We make both scales, as we realised there was a demand. The 1/32nd range is compatible with traditional sized figures such as our Reveille range or W. Britains regiments range. The 1/30th scale figures are compatible with both W. Britains and First Legion. If you'd like to p.m. Bruce he can send you comparison pictures.

Hi Katana,

a few months ago I bought a older set of W. Britains WWII walking wounded Germans to add to my First Legion diorama now if I'm correct this was a older set (2-3 maybe more years old) and it fits perfectly side by side with my First Legion Germans, I have learned over the years boxes can say 1:30, 1:32, etc. etc. some may really be 1:28 or larger or smaller, sets that were made 5 years ago maybe totally different then what said company is advertising now, kind of sucks but I have come to the conclusion you have to buy a few sets here and there and familiarize yourself with what was 1:32 yesterday is the new 1:30 today, but in doing this I have also found you can get away with certain sets from various companies can go hand in hand as well as some that in no way work together, anyway good luck in your efforts...Sammy

Sammy; I agree completly that manufacturers owe it to their customers to specify the size of their products. Figures and vehicles should work realisticly together no matter what the scale happens to be. I build plastic armor models that come with figures in many scales; 1/35, 1/25. 1/16 etc. The figures match realisticly with the armor. No reason polystone model manufacturers cannot do the same. Oddly I have some superb German Panzertruppen that came with several 1/25 Tamiya Panzers. The figures are identical in size and proportions to some of my K&C Panzertruppen! I now use K&C and TCS figures with my 1/25 scale Armor and I am very satisfied with the results. Also the plastic models have far greater detail than the equivalent polystone; but of coarse I have to build and paint them.
