First Legion dispatch (1 Viewer)

I posted on another thread sometime ago, I biggest fear about my wife is, if something happens to me, that she will sell my figures for what I told her that I paid for them!

LOL-This has been a fun thread to follow. I also may have 'neglected to mention' the cost on some of my purchases (and she ain't seen nuthin yet-with all these new items coming out).
Love the ideas posted of using frequent flier miles or tossing a nice handbag into the mix-afterall, the "domestic tranquility front" is the most important front for me :D.

My hats off to you guys for juggling your beloved hobby and domestic affairs so well

You are probably doing better than Napoleon himself - Josephine was both a source of joy and exasperation for Mr Bonaparte :(

Well we may be able to best him in matrimonial harmony but for grandeur of experience he is a tough act to follow with Josephine plus (to name the more notable):

Giuseppina Grassini
Pauline Fourès
Eleonore Denuelle
Mademoiselle George
Countess Marie Walewska
Empress Marie Louise
:eek::D

Well I suppose so; I was thinking something alone those lines when I was looking at the Red Cliff movie reviews today and the screen shots of the scintilating Lin Chi-ling. ;):D

Although the movie has its visual moments (and Lin Chi-Ling, of course ;):D), the historical accuracy left a lot to be desired. Some parts have been dramatised to the point of being cheesy and Cao Cao et el must be turning in their graves

It is a pity really, because a faithful rendition of the Battle of the Red Cliffs as described in the already romanticised "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" (the drier "San Guo Zhi" being arguably a more accurate historical version) would have been more than adequate cinematic entertainment.

Well I will certainly defer to your observations on its historical accuracy. I was not expecting a great deal there since it is advertised as a action drama and I know what filmmakers do with history. I am simply looking for a good production which absorbs me sufficiently so I can overlook the implausible turns; which is sounds like it may deliver. I will let you know more after next week.;)

Haha... I won't discourage you from catching it - perhaps it is passable as a action drama but John Woo (from HK) should just stick to his cops & robbers/gangsters jigs. Mainland Chinese directors are much better at period action dramas - commercialised no less but with taste. If some of the tactics and strategies seem implausible to you, it's Woo's fault. Cao Cao is better in unbiased historical records than depicted in the movie, and Zhou Yu less so. I have no problems with directors/producers making period movies palatable for a wider audience. I go to the movies mainly for entertainment, too - but some things just make one cringe. Red Cliffs could have been an epic if treated differently, but not this one. In any case, your comments after the show will be most interesting :).

Fair enough. I know its not quite the same thing but I feel a similar way about Waterloo. Now it seems we are lucky to even have a major motion picture devoted to a Napoleonic War battle but even though I have and watch it, I am always dissappointed about how much better it could have been with a closer attention to the real story, which actually was more exciting. But then they tried to do way too much in 2 hours and some of the action scenes were just silly, as was were the cavalry actors on the rocking horses.

can someone please send me this "dispatch"!!

Also, check the FL site to see a number of new pics on the Workbench area. It has been revamped and updated. Now I can see what the upcoming AWI Grenadiers will look like! What a great thing to wake up to!
