I have been aware of First Legion Figures for a number of years. I collect/paint figures in the 54mm scale. many of the them being by Metal Modeles, Le Cimier and Britain's. How do First legion compare size wise. I do not wish to buy and find that they look far too big in the way King and Country would.
Comments welcome as would be a picture comparison.
Thanks.

First Legion Napoleonic figures are the same size as Britains Napoleonic figures. First Legions other lines are pretty much the same size as their Napoleonics.

First Legion WWII compared with King and Country. Their website also has information regarding size.

FL Napoleonic figures usually mix well with Metal Modeles, however sometimes depending on the figure, Metal Modeles can appear to be a little shorter. Metal Modeles mounted figures are on slightly smaller horses so mounted figure appear shorter. This is just one man's opinion. :rolleyes2:

Overall they look great mixed. People and horses come in all different sizes. I use both in my displays. I would recommend buying First Legion figures.

I model the ACW. I have First Legion, K&C, and Wm. Britians figures next to each other in an ACW dio and I feel that they all go very well with each other. " Mr Colt 45"

Not sure what size they are but I think their WW2 figures are thinner and a little lankier perhaps than other producers.

Sizewise, FL and Britains go very well together.

FL do kits of some of their manufactured sets perhaps that could interest you if you build and paint. I always thought 54mm related to the modelling days of 1/35th scale. always thought this hobby was 60mm and upwards

Bobs work is a true example of that, mind you he mixes four or five companies sometimes and it works so well for him.

FL is 1:30th scale....definitely smaller then K/C which is 1:28th scale.

... The difference between the two in both sculpting and paint finish is just incredible. At the much larger size the sculptors at K&C should do a much better job IMO. Just one look at the belt buckles and medals tells the tale , you can see the details in both on the smaller First Legion figures while K&C just uses dots of paint to represent badges there are just no attempts at rendering the details in the Panzer Assault badges on the K&C figures at all. Anyone who knows knows that the badges are the correct proportion on the FL figures and on K&C they are way way too small even on their much bigger figures they are smaller then the FL versions .. I could go on.... the detail on the MP40 just to mention another important thing to me but what's the point ?? K&C collectors are free to come on FL threads and point out the reasons why they won't buy FL but when any FL collector actually shows the difference between the two and the reasons why First Legion collectors choose to collect First Legion we get shouted down and the post gets pulled. Like Rob said I'm also not being flippant but the details I pointed out in this post are to me as a collector very Important and all part of the process that I use when choosing what I buy. We all have different taste and what we choose to collect is an individual choice and I choose First Legion for my factory made figure collection and I'm not alone more and more collectors are starting to appreciate the effort FL put into making their products and for me that's a good thing. Buy what you like and enjoy it I know I do .. regards Gebhard

You misunderstood my post, I meant I was not being flippant about being interested in what Mitch had to say. I don't see anyone being shouted down on the FL threads, unlike what used to happen elsewhere until changes were made.

Hi Rob ,
I stand behind everything in my post and the things I highlighted are very important to me as a collector . I'm not being Flippant (lacking in seriousness or disrespectful) I respect the choices you make as a collector and the things you take into consideration to make those choices. I just hope you can respect mine as like yours are important to you mine are important to me . We spend a lot of money on these things, and we both want to be happy with our collections and I feel we both are ..like you say 'So my suggestion to all of you is this, that as adult collectors we CAN like some things one producer creates but not others WITHOUT starting another War ' Happy Collecting....Gebhard

Gebhard after looking at the photos I felt the same about the detail on the fl figures and then had a look at my collection and thought how well my KC Luftwaffe and RAF stuff looked in there own right but my favourite figures are my FL German stalingrad

That's because people rarely point out specifics and usually argue in generalities that may mean nothing to most collectors. By giving an example like you have on the Panzer Assault Badges, you have made the point clear enough so even a dunderhead can understand. :smile2: Much better than calling items names where people can get upset. With a good example, it's not an attack but a presentation of observable fact that is difficult to refute.

Yes and we should also be able to post what we like without criticizing another company for no real reason shouldn't we? Otherwise it smacks of the rabidness of collector that is often condemned in others does it not. I'm afraid where as once K&C held the mantel of having the more rabid ra ra members FL now dominates in that area, yet I've not heard you complain about that so much. You want respect, its got to be both ways.

Rob

Terry...

The thing that you and Gebhard are missing is that is not an assault badge on the K&C figure. It is indeed a very early pre war decoration given to farmers who produced the most milk in their local. It was in fact cast from a local milk churn made by a Gaulieter and thus has no detail whatsoever. It actually is in fact painted absolutely correctly and to a very high standard by the manufacturers painters. You just have to know about the milk medal and ''udders'' (could not resist) made at that time to understand. simple error that anyone could make

Mitch
