I recently ordered 2 of the First Legion Ltd. - French Napoleonic Cannon 8lb. - (see picture below) it is very nice cannon with wonderful detail work.

Unfortunately, one came broken and paint chips everywhere - now this happens sometimes in the Toy Soldier world - but, when I pay retail - I expect perfect condition.

So I contacted First Legion Ltd. (Matt Pavone) and told him what had happen. Matt was very gracious and told me that he would send out another Cannon to replace the one that was broken - and no need to send it back - keep the broken one and we have another out to you - so you dont have to spend money on the return.

WOW - Customer Service ! Now that is nice :)

I have to tell you the Cannon is a great piece and goes well with the King and Country figures - I encourage all of you to buy from these guys.

If you read my Gettysburg Show Report - you saw that I purchased the Bavarian Flag Bearers (also below) - very nice - they are smaller than King & Country figures - but, wonderful in their own display.

Anyway - wanted to share some GOOD NEWS - when it comes to Dealers and Producers who take care of their customers ! :D

I also believe FIRST LEGION should have their own thread in the "More Manufacturers" Section.

Shannon ? Brad ?

Really interesting company; figures and guns look first rate. Wish there ancients were done in 54mm but maybe someday.

They're stuff certainly looks pretty good Ron. I might dip my toes there later this year when my temporary self-imposed ban on Naps expires.

Cheers

I recently purchased the First Legion French Line artillery set. I actually think they can be mixed with K&C. While K&C figures are slightly taller and "chunkier" the First Legion figures can be placed in the front of a diorama.
I prefer a "free form" base similar to K&C rather than the square, flat one from First Legion. If you are going to put together a line or column, however, they will work well.
The infantry figures at about $35 are not too pricey but cavalry at over $100 each will dissuade some collectors from massed cavalry charges.
I find the K&C figures more robust and animated but will collect both.

For Napoleonic fans it looks like a special collection opportunity.

Those are some great pieces there, Those Bavarian uniforms are sharp. Picked up a Tradition 90mm matte Bavarian a few years ago and always thought the uniform was one  outfit. Nice to see some allied troops for Nap collectors. BTY how do those square bases work out?

Yes, that's a great line of Napoleonics! I wonder if they will do Imperial Romans and Carthaginians one day...

I am eagarly awaiting the cavalry for both sides. I think the horses are some of the best done for this period.

Wow, I was browsing around the forum and just noticed that we've been given our own forum section. Thanks to Shannon/Brad for that. Makes me feel all grown up somehow. ;)

Just a few comments in response to some of the posts in this thread.

First, thanks to Ron for the kind words. I'm glad you like your pieces.

Our bavarians are a little shorter than some of our other figures by a few mm I would say. The Artillery set is a bit taller and thinner than most of our other figures. I would say the majority of our sculpts have settled in to somewhere between the two in height and with a bit more girth than the artillerists. Our next four releases, the French Line Infantry, the French Guard, Napoleon and Staff Set, and Murat and the Wurttemberg Jaegers show this pretty well and are our first scupts done by our lead sculptor that we've brought to production.

In terms of our cavalry releases, we're as excited to release them as you are to see them! They're lovely sculpts with the best of them not shown anywhere yet. Suffice it to say that by the end of this fall we'll have released some 23 different cavalry figures.

Our first Nap Russians are also going to production this summer and a small selection of the sculpts can be viewed on our Workbench. We've got over 20 different sculpts for Russian infantry and will release them as line, grenadiers, and guard along with Artillery and some other items we've not announced yet to compliment them.

As for the square bases, I have to say that with sets like the Artillery set where the figures aren't meant to be displayed in base to base contact I can see the reason why an irregular base might be preferable. However, with the figures that are in base to base contact (i.e. close order formation), which is the case with most napoleonic infantry, the square bases are excellent (that's the collector in me talking, not the company representative!). Please check out our gallery for an example of the French line infantry in base to base contact.

In terms of new ranges, we're actually planning two. So keep your eyes out for announcements of them this summer and first releases this fall. The first sculpts are already done for one of them and sculpts are starting on the second. Suffice it to say, we're going to approach them with the same quality and eye for detail that we're doing our Napoleonics.

Well, that's it for now. Keep an eye out over the next week or two as the 29 figures making up our French Line infantry release will be put up on website for sale with the Old Guard following shortly thereafter. Moving forward, we will most hopefully be releasing figures each month. All in all, it's an exciting time for us and we hope you're pleased with what we've got coming.

Best,

Matt

I'll be happy to thank your PR and customer service efforts by purchasing the first charging British Dragoon (not Scot's Grey) when it comes out.:D;) Post 1812 (with the helmet) would be best.

I like what i see in the pictures on the website. I am looking forward to the release of the line infantry. I plan to get a couple to see what i think. Rob

I purchased the Artillery set and the mounted Calvary Set from George at Minutemen. I was totally blown away the figures were great.

I personally like the square bases. I might say one or two of the Artillery Figures had "skinny" legs and could have been a bit thicker.

Otherwise,excellent and I am hooked !

Which mounted cavalry set did you pruchase; can you post some pictures? I did not see one released on their product listing. Also I didn't see any product listing for FL at Minuteman?
