First Legion Really Does Rule (2 Viewers)

Gents, we are NOT going to go back to the days when daily battles over 'my toy soldier company is better than your toy soldier company' raged. If you want to play that game, infractions will quickly follow.

Collect what you like. Don't go out of your way to disparage what someone else collects. Have tact.

I think this about covers it!

While I enjoy a debate as much as the next guy I will never understand the manufacturer vs. manufacturer issue.

I do not base my purchases from any particular company based on this or any other forum. I know it stifles discussions but the "buying what you like" concept is what my collection is based on.

I collect First Legion -- Civil War, Seven Years War and some WW I -- but I also collect King & Country --- dropped some serious coin on some older sets on Thursday -- and Trophy and we, the First Legion collectors, were trying to have some fun, celebrating the new releases which in 10 years of collecting are as fine a day of releases as I've ever seen but a few people just want to ruin it for others. Unfortunately, the thread has now been sullied. That is disappointing.

For those that have not seen them, here is a fine set of figures from the Seven Years War and, yes, they are some of the finest figures I've ever seen from any company. Ever.

Those Samurai are and really love the Iron Brigade, as well as all of the Civil War range.

First Legion is indeed a First Class mfr.
All the figures shown on this thread and in many others prove it.

I want to add some more samples of an incredibly great price/quality ratio.
The mounted Samurai.

Here are the first three.

Happy Collecting!

Fully agree with you Pete.

This "manufacturer" also collects from other companies and I am never derogatory about any product I may not agree with. I praise where praise is due, including to other manufacturers when I feel it applies. So, why can't other "collectors" do the same? I am also a collector and, should you wish or chance upon this latest issue of TS&MF, you will see who I collect!

FL are **** good and, as I have said before, quality comes at a price and a price point has its quality, it is what it is.

Well done FL with these latest releases.

Malcolm.

Outstanding figures Guy.

with the canadian dollar at 1.30 to the US dollar, my collecting habits of chinese figures have stopped completely.

however FL offer a great product which I liked a lot but is far from being the best there is.
Here are the points which have slowly pushed me away from collecting FL figures anymore:

-extensive use of decals in some ranges (romans for example)
-beefier figures in some ranges (saracens) without an increase in sculpting details
-some flag poles are still cast while they should have been replaced with brass rods : it was a problem with the russian naps and I can still see some in some pictures posted before of figures produced many years after
-extensive use of cast edge weapon blades instead of steel ones
-inconsistancy of the quality of the painting between and within some ranges

and finally, but not the least, how many made in China figures do you really need ?
I prefer the unique one of a kind figure

Plain and simple, every single piece is great to look at.

Hi Alex,
Your arguments are justified FL on certain details you specify.
But I know of no other manufacturer can provide this level of quality value for money ..... even if they are Chinese painters !!!! (Except Russians too expensive).
I am fortunate that Euro currency is slightly greater than USD.
Are "invaded" in world trade in products made in China ....
Example PARIS city visited by millions of tourists (including Chinese) buying souvenir Eiffel Tower made in China too !!!!!!!
Conclusion: Chinese people visit France and buy their own products !!!!:p:p^&grin
In the past, France Toys manufacturer soldiers existed but unfortunately as everywhere too high labor costs etc .... I would buy "Made in France" but there is more .....:(
For me FL / NAPS, (my favorite time) is the only manufacturer worldwide that matches my tastes collection and remains accessible for my wallet.
Just my thoughts.
Best.

I can certainly understand and relate to what Alex is saying and before there was a First Legion I was happy with just commissioning one of a kind figures and picking from the Russian firms. The only trouble was you just could not build a small dio no matter how much you spent.

The Russian firms figures as beautiful as they are and I love the many I have are produced to be stand alone figures for collectors to set on a desk or in a curio to represent a period or unit they enjoy. They are not made with the intension of building massed ranks or to be put together to create a larger dios. The quality of the commission dictates the price and they can get up there no doubt and IMO they can be well worth every penny as well. I know the ones I have certainly are to me and then some.

As for just how many made in China figures do you need ? The answer is none we really don't need any of this stuff if you think about it.

Do I wish First Legion were made in the USA, Germany, France or England of course but it is what it is, and to be honest the reality is they would cost much much more if they were.

I'll say it again for me First Legion have created their own market by both making near connoisseur level figures at a fraction of the cost. As well as by taking connoisseur level figures into areas they have never been with regards to the variety of poses to choose from and periods and units covered. Just my thoughts, best Gebhard

What does that have to do with prices. I mentioned nothing about prices. The quality of these can't be surpassed.

Brad,
I saw this thread on day it started and thought the title was bound to get a reaction from some who might not agree with it. Most will know it was a reference to Vezzolfs constant posts about First Legion Rules (I have not looked enough in this area recently to even notice if he still does that). However you as a former Moderator should have expected it would lead to comments that you might have preferred not appear in this thread (ie. from those who might not think First Legion Rules). I guess it was not enough for you just to say this bunch of new releases is one of the best you have seen from any manufacturer. Nobody could argue with that and your thread could have gone on its merry way (but probably with less posts !).
Brett
PS don't anybody take this as an anti FL comment as not intended to be.
