It seems that it is a simple process to create a "snow-stug" from existing stock....Just add a little white-wash and mud:wink2:.....I would like to see First legion do this with the Stalingrad Grey Stug. I remember seeing a proto-type FL Winter Stug which never was released. I think I have a stored photo somewhere....Will try to find it....Maybe Matt would consider doing an FL Winter Stug from the existing Grey Stug mould..... we already have a Winter Panzer III.....A "snow-stug" would be an excellent addition to the Stalingrad Series.

anyone know why there are winter tracks on the grey one as it is?

It would not be surprising to me if First legion goes ahead with this Winter Stug.....I think that many guys would buy it.....Very Realistic...not Toy-Like.:wink2:

anyone know why there are winter tracks on the grey one as it is?

Are they Ostketten rather than Winterketten? I thought that Ostketten were just wider tracks while Winterketten were triangular extensions?

Thanks,
Marc

According to the description of the Stug they are Ostketten.

I'm pretty sure it was a typo that was never corrected. Ostketten came a few years later

Terry good point

Winterketten were available from about October 1942 so it is possible to have an not yet whitewashed AFV with Winterketten. Ostketten were not available until 1944 and were for mud from the Spring thaw and Autumn rains in Russia and Eastern Europe. They are both track links and not just bolt on extensions. The difference is in their shape. Winterketten look like a normal track with a paddle extension added. The gripper bar goes across only what looks like the normal track width. There are big spaces between the "extensions" for snow.

Ostketten were developed in 1944 for deep mud from the Spring thaw and Autumn rains of Russia and Eastern Europe. The paddle extensions are closer together to better distribute the weight of the AFV in mud. The gripper bar goes almost the full width of the track and the extension.

Here is a comparison of the different track types.

The extended tracks on both FL AFVs are Winterketten.

I think a AFV of this quality would do very well indeed {bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}}

Count me all in if there is a Snowstug in the future, but being I have 2 versions of the grey Stug I would love to see a winter Hanomag or winter Panzer IV long barrel with battle worn side skirts, but then again if any winter vehicles come along they are a must have:)...Sammy

Does anyone know if mark has been asked to do this?????? It looks to me that their is a some-what decent interest in this being made available and ties into the Stalingrad line. {sm0}
