First post & a few pix (1 Viewer)

Love the lensbaby. I own a couple of them but have yet to use it. Love the pictures. Welcome.

Hey there!
I've been collecting for a couple of years now, but probably only a bit more seriously in the past six months. I'm a fairly regular visitor to Vietnam and a collector of pre 1954 French Indochina insignia. So, when I started collecting toy soldiers a bit more seriously I gravitated towards the K&C Streets of Hong Kong range and decided to use them in an Indochinese context.

So here's a couple of pix of my French Indochina / Siam scene. Mainly K&C, with a couple of Del Prado and a couple of Britains Delhi Durbhar figures included. The base and buildings are all scratch built. It's a work in progress and I am just about to start the next stage of construction.

cheers

Jules

A very nice way of introducing yourself to the forum Jules featuring your scratch built buildings and your selection of figures. Welcome aboard and look forward to seeing the results of your next stage....The Lt.

Thanks folks. My buildings were inspired by the styles that I saw in Hoi Anh (Vietnam) and Luang Prabang (Laos). They're made out of balsa wood and are quite basic as it was my first attempt.

I'm starting to get a bit more ambitious now, so who knows where this is going to end up?

Dear "Jules118":
Interesting photos!!!

Thanks for the positive replies, folks. This is a great forum and it's starting to make me a bit of a K&C addict. I'm finding that I log on here too often and spend much too much time looking through the old threads checking out pix etc. Then, thinking about what I can spend money (that I don't have) on.

Jazzeum, a lensbaby is camera lens that allows the user to control the point of focus (and depth of field for the photo buffs) in a different way to regular camera lenses. So, if you look at the photo where I mentioned it, you can see only the rickshaw runner and guy holding the fish are sharp and everything else becomes blurred very quickly.

cantinetozzo, Yeah, the guy in the white tropical uniform and his fellow 'rupert' standing next to the photographer are both French, from Del Prado or Hachette. He is the French Foreign Legion officer from Tonkin and the guy next to the photographer is a French Naval officer from 1915 (I think). Not 100% sure now. Found them both on ebay.

Just took a few more pix of my SOHK series before I dismantle the current set up in preparation for a new display cabinet due to arrive this week.

Jules,
These photos look great, and welcome to the Forum! I especially like your use of shallow depth of field to emphasize your subjects against their background. Not familiar with a "lensbaby", but am experimenting with various telephoto lens to acheive a similar effect. The shots you have from eye level of the figures are particularly effective. Great work. I also like the muted colors - did you make those adjustments in Photoshop?

Mike
