FIW Canoes on Water Diorama (1 Viewer)

Michael:The Modpodge dries clear but I don't know if it effects the Magic Water. Craft people use it to cover paper documents to give them protection and a old time edge on paper. For example, they might take a picture or old card and modpodge it to fix on a wooden board. I know it dries hard like varnish would do. I would not chance it on your fine diorama but maybe the water magic dealer knows about using it. I still am looking at my materials for a diorama but have not done anything yet. John

Old diorama. The river was resin mix with some Modpodge. This was before Magic Water. I don't have a close up right now. John

Mike,

I might consider picking some of this up for a Normandy bridge diorama! Do you mix it with paint to get the color, or are there different colors?

Vick

Vick,

The "Magic Water" is clear.

I painted the river bed forest green with a strip of flat back down the middle to illustrate depth.

I wish I had made the black strip wider.

Yes, you can mix, ink, paint or any pigment to color the water, but I think painting the terrain you are going to pour on, is easier.

I used Durhams water putty to seal it. Read the first post on the Whalboat thread, it really explained everything.

PM me for a phone number if you need any help.

Great work Michael!

How deep did you pour?

Thanks Donnie,

It's hard to say, maybe 3/4" in the deepest spots. Maybe 1/16" in the most shallow.

If I had made my river bed more flat and level, I would have used a lot less.

My mistake as a first timer.

A thin covering is all you need.

On the banks of the bed, you can even paint it on to save on the product.

Make sure you post photos of your next project! I have always been interested in putting together a water project, and your terrific post was very helpful!:)

Thanks for the compliment, you might look at the John Jenkin's forum under the Whaleboat diorama thread I posted.

It gives a detailed explanation and some tips on the product.

It was so easy.

If you get nervous doing it, PM me, I'll send you my number.

Leadmen it's always goood to hear from you. Truly.

But now on this thread I've seen that you've twice self-censored yourself. I hope you're okay.:D At first I thought that Jazzeum had cut you.

John,

That really looks nice to me.

I'm curious, how old is it and how has it held up?

I'm going to call Dave Williams tomorrow for some more product and some tips on adding wave, ripples etc..., to a finished dio.

If anybody would know, it would be him.

I probably would not adhere anything directly to the water in the diorama now, I'm scared I would screw it up and ruin it, lol.:D

Mike said "Nothing special here, except John's canoe sets".
A bit of an understatement !!!
Thanks once again for sharing.
Regards
Brett

Yes, I was going to post a couple more diorama photos of the river but did not want to effect Michael's thread so I deleted them. John:)

Michael: the diorama is at least 15 years old and nothing cracked. It was too big for a basement shelf so I cut it in half and water did not glaze or crack. John
