FL have started with figures of the actual Night landings (101st Airborne) and the troops they fought in well known battles GVB and the FJ's. Now, a sneek peek of a US or what I am sure will be a US Sherman.

Chronologically I was fine with those as they dropped early to pave the way for the landings. I was a bit off balanced with the Sherman as I was expecting other airborne units that were pivotal to the success of the landings like Pegasus and Merville to be addressed. Are we, still on track in terms of order of battle for these additions and, will there be troops landing on the beaches?

Its often said FL will do a battle in depth Normandy is a bit more than a Stalingrad in terms of what it covered and the scope that falls under that Title.

Just wondering will we be jumping around as the series builds or, roughly staying as it rolled out?

Any comments etc would be appreciated

FL started off doing Stalingrad with only units and AFVs that were at Stalingrad. Now it looks like they are doing the Battle of Carentan with units and Afvs that were there, including the Sherman I would expect FL to continue adding units and vehicles which were there and not jump all over Normandy.

As long as they keep going with Normandy and the Western Front I shall be happy. :)

Think your right Terry I'm sorry to say:(

This is why I am asking and would be interested in what Matt has to say. Its all been released as the battle of Normandy which, as I said encompasses quite a wide area. They are not adverse to doing specific battles but, Carantan is rather restrictive IMO in terms of what was fighting there (if we are being strict) we already have most of the protagonists apart from second armour (the reason IMO for the Sherman) and the 29th.

I would have preferred and hoped that it would be an encompassing release covering the Battle for Normandy including some of the areas I raised.

Maybe FL will finish Carentan soon with one or two pieces of armour and move on to Sainte Lo Lots of armour there and even Tigers!!!!

Saint Lo would be fantastic!!!!! We had a close family friend who landed on Omaha Beach then was wounded by a sniper at Saint Lo. He was like my grandfather.

Terry think your missing Mitch is point ,he after some 6th airborne British paras mate ^&grin

I must admit I was hoping to see some British paras - Pegasus Bridge - at least on the horizon, but perhaps FL's plan is to follow the 101st's story for a while before moving on elsewhere.

However, as Tiger tanks were exclusively employed against 2nd Army for most of the Normandy campaign, perhaps all those who want that particular vehicle in their collections should start pressing FL to do some Brits as soon as possible!

Many a year ago (not that long I guess) :) when taking the First Legion plunge I discussed with Matt on more then a few occasions about the availablity of the Western Front and he assured me in time that the range would be addressed, but no time table was set, and of course how could the Western Front be marketed without our fighting partners Brits, Canadians?? it's just a matter of time before both join in the First Legions Arms and Armies of WWII, hang in there grasshoppers I'm sure good things will come...Sammy

Since First Legion puts out WW2 releases at a much slower pace than other manufacturers, I'd like the Normandy range to encompass the entire battle personally and not be so specific as to only include units involved in the first couple days/weeks of the invasion. That being said, as long as they vary the equipment I'm good with it.

Really, the only two things I need to complete the range are a late war iconic German piece of armor equipped with schürzen (preferably a Panzer IV, StuG III, or Panther) and some regular Wehrmacht troops in a late war hodgepodge of uniforms and equipment.

Then, First Legion needs to get on with a Battle of the Bulge range so we can get a proper King Tiger made in a true 1/30 scale! :salute::

Maybe FL will do Caen next and everybody gets what they want.

I guess I am just musing as I expected the party starting with airborne drops but, that must or hopefully include brit para's and then be followed up with beach landing troops and armour. I was just surprised to see the sneak peek of the Sherman and wondered how the series would evolve. still early days I suppose but, its nice to have an idea at least where its going to be heading.

It may look depending on when the Sherman is released that we may have 2 armour and the 29th before looking at the rest of the night airborne drops and the actual landings themselves.

I think HR mentioned the winter Bulge and having most of one companies offerings I would think having seen the winter stuff to date that that would be a really interesting set of releases

Battle of the Bulge is where I would like to see the Normandy range go next, since that would most likely result in the release of a camoflage 1:30th KING TIGER...However there is still more subject matter to explore for FL in the Eastern Front Battles.....Battle of Kursk would be really be an excellent direction for First Legion for the release of various "German Armour Models".

A Sturer or Dicker Max Tank Buster would be a superb "German Armour Model" for Kursk.

I would like to see that expansion from Stalingrad however, I would hope that if they do expand on from the Stalingrad battle after its fall that they would address what was one of the most important battles in the east and, certainly one of the best being Kharkov.

For FL it has it all Panzer I, II, III and IV's also the Tiger I in grey and white camo all the main elements of the Waffen SS and the Panzer Lehr along with a myriad of Heer units

An awesome area to address correctly

Interesting topic about where this line might lead. The Sherman as shown would be right for the post-landings combat - there is no waterproofing gear. The tanks on the US beaches would have been M4/M4A1 with deep wading equipment (some with dozer blades attached) or M4A1 Duplex Drive. The light tanks and reinforcing tank battalions came later and the armored divisions in later days.

Fortunately for the Allied fans there wasn't a lot of difference in their material between the early battles in Normandy and the drive across France, Market-Garden, and the German border, so a lot of the figures and vehicles can be used for several scenarios.

For the German armor fans, you can hope for the battles around Caen. The US Army had to slog through the hedgerows, but the British/Canadians faced more and better German armor. The Americans saw few, if any, actual Tiger tanks until after Operation Cobra (to the US troops every German tank was a "Tiger" in reports). The US fought infantry and Fallschirmjaeger units and the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Div, but the rest of the SS were fighting against Monty, so most of the "cool" German armor was near Caen.
