FL Panzer III next to FIGARIT Panzer IV (1 Viewer)

The FL Panzer III is 1/30. I base this on math. It's not really hard to measure and the ruler tends not to lie. The Figarti Panzer IV Ausf D is noticeably larger than 1/30 when measured.

The K&C Panzer IV Ausf H measures out almost perfectly to 1/30. I'll post a picture of that next to the FL Panzer III tomorrow to show you what a true sceled Panzer IV looks like next to a Panzer III.

As for manufacturers claims to scale, they really mean nothing.

Good idea. Could you post the length and width of the chassis of the 3 tanks. The figarti and K&C tanks should be identical and a bit longer than the P.III

Here's what scale harmony looks like for a Tiger, Panzer IV, and Panzer III. (Note the Panzer III has extra wide winterketten tracks)

All three vehicles measure out to be pretty much spot on for 1/30.

Well one thing is for sure, BRITAINS LTD is not very good..

So the basis for determining the scale our figures is not measurements, but rather simply comparing them to W Britains? Interesting approach. Perhaps W Britain is actually 1/30th. :)

I'm surprised at how narrow the P.IV looks next to the P.III chassis, especially the top down view.???

Terry,

Not sure what to tell you on the width. The Panzer III was wider than the Panzer IV. All these tanks scale out pretty much perfectly to 1/30 and I can't really find any fault with their proportions when comparing them to historical examples.

Cheers.

I know the P.III was wider than the P.IV but only by about 4" which is tiny at 1:30. Maybe I'm being fooled by the much wider P.IV turret making it look narrower than it is?

Nice choice for a display mat ! :wink2:

If you want to do a side-by-side photo comparison, take the turrets of and compare just the chassis. This eliminates any visual influences of differences due to different turret sizes and gun sizes. The P.IV should be clearly longer - about 1/2" and marginally narrower. With the turrets on, the P.IV should be slightly taller.

Too my eye, they look fairly close in the photos (I don't have either model) If you measure just the chassis without the turrett, at 1:30 the P.IV should be 19.7mm in length vs 18.5mm for the P.III and the P.III should be 9.8mm in width vs 9.5mm for the P.IV

Hi Terry,
I got your suggestion and I intend to take some comparative pics and display measurements on this topic once my camera issue is resolved.
