Gentle Friends,
As I have been unpacking my collection in our new home, I have uncovered another set of figures that belongs to my ACW collection. Specifically, it is a set that was manufactured by W. Britains and it is titled Fire at the Angle.
According to the materials that accompany the set...
"Fire at the Angle depicts the last shot from Cushing's Battery fired by Lieutenant Alonzo Cushing himself. This shot was fired directly into Pickett's Division at the Angle, July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg. This irregular rectangle of ground called The Angle was a hunderd yards deep by two to three hundred yards wide and it was the bloody cockpit of the whole war. Here was where men on foot with guns in their hands would arrive at a verdict."
"A regular army battery of six guns commanded by Lieutenant Alonzo Cushing had been posted just north of the copse of trees and by the time the Confederates came up to close range, five of the six guns had been put out of action. When Cushing fired the final shot from the one gun that remained, he was killed and most of the gun crew went down with him."
I hope you enjoy seeing the set which appear in the pictures below.
Warmest personal regards,
Pat
