Hi Pat,

Thanks for your post very interesting to hear how you go about your collecting.Its funny that although i tend to look at what's coming out next first,its the retirements that are my priority.A large percentage of my collection are items that are now retired and a lot of the time i am playing catch up.One good thing about agonizing over these purchases though is that i know i really want every item i buy.So this is the system i use throughout the year,but at the London shows in March,June and December i allow myself a treat of something newer.....well you've got to buck the system now and again

I know exactly what you mean about treating yourself and bucking the system at a great show. I have been fortunate to periodically attend OTSN in Chicago and I am truly embarrassed at how much I have spent there. I think my favorite dealers enjoy seeing me at the show! They have told me my presence enriches their show experience. Whatever could they mean?

I check the retired each month then decide what should be a priority. I am still somewhat new to K&C so I would rather get a retired item at retail then have to add it to the list of ones I missed. I add older ones whenever the budget allows. I have found several good deals recently on Ebay.

I stick to items needed for the diorama I am currently building. The only time I will interrupt this for a limited production that I must have, such as the Tunisian Tiger.

No real strategy to my purchases......I don't sweat the retired stuff.....for me no need to own it all.....I just by what I "like" and try to spread out my purchases over a few months......I have also began to be very selective as to what I buy and what I wiil pay for it......I already have a decent WWII collection......space to display items is also a factor in my purchases.

I just buy the WWI stuff and I don't buy a lot at all actually I just have 4 figures now. I have been alternating between a German and then a Scott, but I recently heard that the Scott's didn't sell well and if anything is to be retired it would be them, so I am going to focus on buying up Scotts.

I collect a number of different ranges, so I try to alternate, one month buy winter Germans, then Bulge Americans, then Alamo and finally Market Garden. Although sometimes I might buy single figures from several in one month. I do try to keep up with all ranges and start buying as soon as they are released. Fortunately I have been lucky that nothing has been retired before I was able to get it, but it is only a matter of time before that happens

I'd very much like to get into the WW1 range as it does look really good,however i'm afraid my War Budget is stretched defending Bastogne,Normandy,Arnhem and the Desert.

I focused on new issues and infilling with new retirements and a few pieces from Figarti like the Honey tank, the AK Panzer IV with the bicycle and Monty's M3 Grant. When the Canadian dollar was at par with the US dollar last year, I went crazy on e-bay and played catch-up on retired pieces. Now I am back to mainly new issues and am waiting impatiently to see what WWII pieces will be coming out in June.

Hi Scott,

Ha! The matte Britains Durbar series may result in my ultimate downfall! For me, the jury is still out on the series. All the Durbar figures/sets I presently own are produced with a glossy finish. And,...because I collect Durbar figures manufactured by several companies (Britains, Marlborough, Beau Geste, and William Hocker), I already have three separate Durbar displays. Collecting the matte series would necessitate a fourth Durbar display, which would provide yet another display space challenge. But, you never know. I may fall in love with the series and discontinue collecting any further K&C figures in order to stay within my budget. I will keep you informed of my actions!

I always say - once a Durbar collector - always a Durbar Collector. I know you'll jump on board, perhaps you are already more than half way over the fence I have pre -ordered all of this great looking series.

I always say - once a Durbar collector - always a Durbar Collector. I know you'll jump on board, perhaps you are already more than half way over the fence I have pre -ordered all of this great looking series.

You are corrrect. I think everybody knew I would finally cave in and go for the Britains matte Durbar series. I have already pre-ordered the limited edition elephant and I plan to purchase the remaining figures as my budget allows. I have even been considering what figures in my existing collection should be packed away in order to make room to display the matte Durbar line. If I continue acquiring Durbar figures at the present rate, before too long the only figures I will have on display will be the Durbar ones! However, that cannot be too bad, can it? Like you say, "Once a Durbar collector, always a Durbar collector!"

Also, there is comfort in knowing someone else follows a similar strategy with monthly purchases. Most times, the strategy works well for me.
