Dear boys,
I am seeing on ebay a very curious canoe which is clamed to be of JJ; It's looks like the Frontlines'one with 5 identical figures of the french canoe of JJ. If it were a true one , I don't see the interest . It is named "french marines" which is not good as the figures are militiamen or runners of the woods.
Be carefull if JJ is being copied.
My best regards to you all.
Thierry

Ca va, Thierry! Do you happen to have a link for the auction? We could take a look and see what everyone thinks.

Prost!
Brad

Hello Brad,
First . Sorry , there are only 4 figures . But at 52 , even with my glasses I have some problems.
This item is sold in ebay Store by Ictoys , n° 280329529769.
Tell me what you think.
Thierry

Hello,
To say more ,I found the item when I choose "ebay.US" with worldwide. And bellow it appears the stores.
This item is located in Bedale , U K .I quoted the number of the object. More I am looking at him and more I am suspicious.

That is a Frontline Canoe I would say and the figures do look like one of the Militia Men in the CAN-02 set.
If they are made from Resin, like stated, then they are probably either copies or maybe pre release castings ???

It looks as though they are multiples of the back rower from the JJ CAN-02 canoe set. The canoe could be the one used in that set - hard to tell.

I don't think that the original canoe from CAN-02 is long enough to hold 4 rowers as shown.

Hmm...I don't collect Jenkins, so I don't know for sure, but maybe someone else does, does he cast his figures in resin? The seller's description says that the figures are cast in resin. I thought Jenkins only casts figures in metal. If that is so, and they are indeed resin, then could that be an indication that they are copies?

The Jenkins collectors will need to ring in on this one.

I just emailed the seller and asked what set was this in Jenkins - BM ? CAN ? QF ? - we will see if he responds - but, it looks like four of the back rowers from CAN 02 set and a Frontline Canoe from their Indian Canoe Series.

From John himself,

Hi Michael

many thanks for the link
The figures could be mine the canoe is not
Have sent the link to my UK dealers to investigate.

best wishes

john

I smell a BIG RAT !

Yo Troopers, small world. I have just been having a go at the same seller over some of his Stadden figures. One he has listed is General Howe, which was never put out by Chas as a single. Its from his ACW chess set, and put out after Chas passed on by TKS staddendirect. OK its still a Chas model, but its listed with an original Chas box from the Twickenham factory which is an impossibility. I think its just down to ignorance of the fact that even big sellers like him don't know much about other makers, and you can't kid the Froggers who specialise in certain makers models. But I have told him twice about this and he still hasn't changed the listing, so as you guys say, go figure that one.
Bernard.

Ooops wrong war lol, should be AWI not ACW:eek:

This same canoe and crew were at the show in London Last week. I think the 'gentleman' behind the stall was European but can quite remember. He had at least two to start with, one with French militia crew identical figures all with the same tattoos red hats etc sold with a JJ style box. The canoe had the look of the frontline canoes not as natural looking as Johns. Easy, Rob and Wraith may have seen them as we all passed his stall.

Dont know if the TM guys lost anyt canoes in the raid on their storage unit but somethings odd about these canoes, not sure what John would feel about them.

Wow - I never thought about that TM situation ?

If you think about it - that would explain why this seller has FOUR OF THE SAME JJD CAN 02 - ROWERS ! !

I was trying to think why anyone would break up four canoe sets ? - It is either the TM thing or they are "fakes" from Hong Kong. IMHO.

We did loose a canoe but only one of Can01.
Looking at the figures, the painting isn't Johns style and he says they are resin so something very strange about them.
We will see if we can get in touch with him direct and see what we can find out.
