Does anyone know roughly when the new Shermans are due?

Rob

Wow, I'm surprised about that. Didn't think they would be ready so soon.

Can you spill the beans about theater, etc.?

Could we be about to get a desert Sherman?

Rob

I don't know the theater yet, Brad. The boyz are finishing the sculpting. As soon as we get to the painting of the prototypes they will be deciding which versions they want to release, with the necessary modifications. I'll let you know.

Rob, as I said I don't know about the versions yet. But I guess that a desert version is possible.

Ana, Firefly:confused: PLEASE, pretty please with sugar on top and a cherry and everything else that's cute.:) :) :)

I hope we get one with Polish markings from Mt. Cassino.

Ana, that's fast work with the Shermans, how far off are those Tigers ;)

Btw guys, there has been plenty said about the smallness of the K & C Tiger tanks comparred to their figures which made me wonder if the K & C Shermans are also smaller than 1/30. Can anyone provide any information about that?

I have often wondered if there was a formula that we could use to measure the models actual dimensions to what they ought be, when scaled down. I am pretty sure that the new Stuart is 1/32 as well as their Wittman Tiger. The Churchill is massive when placed next to other tanks that are supposed to be longer for real, so that might be true 1/30 scale.....Other than that , who knows? Michael

Michael, to calculate the model scale all you have to do is check the length of the real tank on the internet if you don't have any tank reference books.

Then you convert that measurement to inches or centemetres and then divide by the main scales being 35, 32 and 30. Then you measure the length of your model and the closest match is the scale of the model. Note that some models do not fit in an exact scale, so you need to work on the closest fit. Another factor is that measurements in different references may vary depending upon how the measurement was obtained. For example if the cupola was included in the overall height, and exhausts etc included in overall length.

Of course there are more technical methods but this works best for me.

There is a discussion at the moement over on the K&C thread about how much we really need a Desert Sherman, this would be a great oppurtunity for HB to fill a gap in the market.I'm sure there would be a great take up on this model.I know the good folk at HB are still deciding what theatres the Shermans will be from, but it would be lovely to have a NA version.

Honour Bound,

If there is any interest in a British M4A1 Sherman for North Africa, let me suggest a couple references that the boys should add;

"Code Name Swallow, British Shermans at Alamein" - by Dennis Oliver, from Mushroom Publications in England. Available in the US from Squadron Shop.

"British Shermans" - a recent volume from Concord that covers British use of Sherman gun tanks in AL theaters of operations. Concords can be a little spotty on their distribution but the book is still available.

In addition there was an excellent model article in Military Modelling a couple years ago and some material in George Bradford's "Armor Camouflage and Marking in North Africa, 140-43".

Did the photo disks arrive yet?

I think there will be a lot of interest in this version.Andy has said he won't be doing one so this will create interest in HB's version.I for one would get one,as we really need some armoured support in the desert.

May pick up some of those books myself, thanks Gary.

Thank you, Gary. Thank you so much.

No, we haven't received the CDs yet but I'm sure that they'll be here soon. I'll let you know.

Gary,

Way to go sending them some good reference materials. I hope that does the trick. I was think of doing the same thing but you're an expert on the subject so it was better you supply them with the reference material.

Carlos

Yes well done for sending these Gary, could we really be about to get a desert Sherman????

Your right my poor EA have a Matilda,25ILB Gun and a Vickers tank. They need more punch. They have infantry, mine sweepers and officers. Now we need some armour to go over to the offensive.A Sherman would be most welcome indeed,as would a Grant a Crusader and an M7 Priest. Then we can drive Rommel right out of North Africa!....i need to get out more!!!!
