The forum would be nothing without its members so it makes sense to start the celebration with a thread dedicated to shout outs to members you appreciate most.
Maybe they helped you with advice, ideas or to locate that hard to find piece you were searching for. Maybe their diorama pictures inspired you. Maybe they were just a friendly voice who welcomed you to the forum or encouraged you in the hobby.
Let us know who they are and what they did here on this thread! Give us your stories, anecdotes and fun memories.
(Obviously our moderators are very helpful but save those stories for Tuesday when we will celebrate Moderator Appreciation Day!)

Wow - i've only been here since sometime in 2013, and since then countless people have advised, directed and led me through the wonderful world of toy soldiers! I was a lonely soul, wandering the deep dark internet alone until I found a home here!

NO one to single out, but I want to thank everyone at Treefrog and all members here for all of the help and friendship!

For me hands down the long-running "The American Civil War Diaries" by "UKREB" I actually look for updates to this thread every time I log into the forum. I have gotten many new ideas from his posts and his one-off figures.

Agree heaps of people have assisted me, but two in particular come to mind. One is Randy (Polar Bear), for a year or more i would send him my diorama photo's each week for him to resize and send back to me, so i than could post on the forum as I had no means of scaling down the photos to the acceptable size that system required. He always was happy to assist and I was never a bother to him, amazing. The other is Mike Miller. Whenever I found something in the US that was not prepared to ship internationally, I simply ask Mike who would buy it with his own money, get the item shipped to him and than send it on to Australia all at his cost (I did reimburse him in case you are wondering^&grin). Two outstanding people to say the least. On the home front, I have an excellent network of friends on the forum and they know who they are. Great forum to belong too. Robin.

Thank you Robin
It has always been a pleasure to see the scenes you come up with and the steady progression in your technique and style.

there are so many cool people that I have enjoyed following and developing a friendship with...

I may miss a few in this list...it doesn't mean I don't love you...^&grin

this may be strange...
but my favorite on here was Joe Quintini aka theLt....
never have I met someone on here that gave me so much of his time and advice...
he was more instrumental in developing my passion for this hobby than anyone...
I miss that guy...

Randy aka PolarBear...
he taught me how to take pictures...
thank you for that...
he was...and still is...one of the masters of "the small diorama"...

Carlo Terrnoni aka Risorgimento...
I have learned so much about model making from him...
being in Italy...sadly I have never met him...
I would love to work along side him and learn all his techniques...

I have to include Mike aka Modwalls...
who got me over my phobia of working with foam...
sadly he is gone...
but I learned so much from him...

Tim aka Fishhead...
he taught me some much about creating models...materials and techniques...

the threads I enjoy watching the most...
partly because of the size of their immense collections...
but mostly because of their unwavering passion...

Matryn aka GICOP...
Robin aka Villagehorse...
Mike aka Mestelle...
Duke aka wwIIbuff...
Joe aka Hector of Troy...
Ken aka Fraxinus...
Mark aka REVWARBUFF...

and I have to add Jason aka PanzerAce...
for his JJD...TG and K&C databases...
which I refer to as the Bible...

to me...these are the guys that make this forum work...

I know I missed a lot of guys in my list...I'm sorry...but my friends know how I feel about them...

thank you Peter and Shannon...

I miss many work production hours, checking the Forum like 10-times a day (I'm doing it now). Although dioramas are neat to look at, the best part of the Forum are not about TS, but discussions about books, movies, current events, history. I enjoy seeing the comradeship among collectors (notably the London Show guys). We also have some great comedians here too (Wraith, Toy Soldier Brigade, HotelAlpha). In the beginning, we didn't have many guys from downunder. I recall, Vandilay, Simpson and his Donkey, Obee, Wayne and the Villagehorse. Now we have twice as much. Welcome aboard guys. But where the heck is, Rob and Louis?

It has been almost 5 years since I discovered the forum. Although I haven`t been posting much lately, hardly does a single day go by without me checking on the forum! I can`t say how important joining it turned out to me and my collecting... it simply made me feel like what I think that a small rural community member who never travelled outside the fences of the farms around him must feel being instantly removed from his surroundings and see himself in the middle of New York City! That`s the impact the forum and its community had on my dimension of the TS world and industry, since I was a lost and absolutley lonley collector in the middle of Brazil buying all my stuff through the internet and on occasional trips to the US and Europe.

I had fun before, but the forum turbocharged my horizons and me made me feel part of something bigger, that there was much more out there, and most of all, people like me who love this hobby and share the same interests I have. So first I want to thank both you Shannon and Peter, whom I was so happy to meet in Chicago last September (I didn`t have a clue there was a Chicago Show, or any Show for that matter, before the fórum...LOL) for creating, and maintaining, this wonderful place!

Through the forum I met some extraordinary people, having the chance to get to know some of them in person and become friends, sharing knowledge and experience about this fantastic hobby! Help and inspiration? Well, I can mention Louis, Brad, Rob, NYsoldiers, the greatly missed Lawrence Lo, Frank, Guy, Duke, Robin, Mitch, Wayne, Artillerycrazy, PanzerAce1944, just to mention a few, and the list will go on and on... Hope to be here for not only the next 10, but for as many years the Lord will grant me, because I can assure you all that it is a great pleasure when I am able to log-in and immerse myself in this fabulous cyberworld of ours!

Thanks to all of you! You all contribute to make my collecting, and why not say my life, even more enjoyable! :salute:::wink2:

I have a few and in no particular order

Michael Miller - a great and helpful member, sent me some items out of his own pocket for my Zulu display. I still use them Michael ! Cheers

Randy - I think Randy gave me the inspiration to have a go at making some vignettes. Wonderful photography and very knowledgable

The LT - Ahhhh good old Papa Z !! He lit the fire starting my Zulu collection, always a kind word and full of helpful advice. It was a sad day when I learned of his passing, I sure do miss him.

Mike (mestell) - Another helpful chap, great dios and always willing to answer questions.

There are others that have provided comic relief and helpful words over the years

UK REB
JEFF
Martin & Martyn
Trooper
J "lets paint it ourselves" B

just to name a few.

Heres to all the forum members though and and thanks for all of your contributions !!

Regards
Scott

Scott...

yes Papa Zulu...I gave him that moniker...^&grin...

he inspired me so much when I collected Rorke's Drift...and I miss him too...such a happy go lucky guy...

I'm sure his passion was a great influence on a lot of collectors...especially on the Zulu Wars...

I found the Forum back in 2008 while doing a search for info on Trophy of Wales Toy Soldiers, believe it or not back in 2008 I had the intention of selling my Trophy AZW collection and I was looking for a rough idea of the value……very silly idea.{eek3}

After joining the Forum and being in contact with some great guys the selling idea went out the window very quickly and the collection just got bigger and bigger.:rolleyes2:

Here are some of the guys I am honoured to call friends, please excuse me if I miss out anyone

Joe (The Lt)….. very sadly missed he was one of the first to welcome me…..RIP Joe

Michael (mikemiller1955)….. not only has he helped me with my Toy Soldier collection he got my car back on the road…now that’s another story:wink2:

Damian……A great fellow Trophy collector who I have been fortunate to meet on several occasions during his stop overs in London

Teddy(Nap10)…..Another fellow Trophy collector, we have met up a few times when he has visited the UK. Teddy arranged delivery of my Boer War Armoured train

Bob (UKReb) and Jeff (aujj65)…..always meet up at the London Show and have a great time putting the World to rights

Buster…..A great guy to know and a passionate Little Legion collector…like me

Brad (jazzeum)…..Another helpful guy, we exchange email on a regular basis mainly about Trophy

John (johnnybach)………Similar taste in glossy figures…..and music

Lawrence Lo….Another sadly missed Trophy collector….I was very lucky to have a long telephone conversation with him a few years ago

Tommy (W.T. Allison II)…..Great Trophy collector with a fabulous collection

Here’s to the next 10 years and a big thank you to Shannon and Pete, I must add I had the pleasure of meeting Pete at the London Show in December 2010

Quick mention for Brian (deitz), Scott (thebritfarmer), Scott (IONA), Al (boerboy), Clive (lurchio), Louis and Tom plus Mike (1879fanatic)...where did you go

As I said apologies to anyone I have missed out

Cheers

Martyn:)

Scarlet Pimpernel, AKA Nick, used his extensive teaching and consulting experience to basically tutor me in writing and advise me on college applications. Without him, I don't know if I would be where I am today.

On that note, I just wanted to add that although I have not posted much in the past two years and have been bad at replying to messages, I still try to view dioramas on here from time to time. I am in college doing ROTC, so life has been very busy.

Regards,
Sandor

PanzerAce1944, just to mention a few, "Thanks Carlos" Much appreciated ! :salute::

Having only joined a few months ago I can only comment on the splendid people who post on here. My humble offerings of photos and comments have on the whole been warmly received. I no longer feel alone in New Zealand participating in this great hobby. Really touched by the care and friendship that comes from this forum

Too many members here that have inspired, encouraged, helped me with he hobby. If I would start listing them, I'm sure I miss one and the other, so I just keep it general :wink2:

The discovery I appreciated most, after joining the forum in early 2007, was the large number of collectors, relatively of course, being involved with this fine hobby.
Was very happy to learn, that I was not the one lonely "odd" bloke who is still in "Little Army Men".

Endless hours of fun and excitement followed throughout the year. It's a must to check out the forum at least once a day ^&grin

So, my shout out goes to all, and along with the wish, that the participation stays active, the membership grows and that there will be many more years to come, in which we all can share this wonderful hobby.

Konrad

I'm sure I will miss a few and apologies to anyone I missed but among those who have helped me are:

Louis - I accidentally met him through the Internet and my collecting life has never been the same; he got me interested in glossy figures. Too bad he is no longer involved with the hobby.

Lawrence Lo - sadly missed. He had a nose for finding figures that was amazing.

Andy Neilson - a zest for life and his incredible creations.

Martyn - without his help and inspiration, wouldn't have the Trophy collection that I have and woukd have made some big mistakes along the way.

Damian - wonderful human being with a terrific Trophy collection.

Boer boy - an immense help with Trophy.

The Lieutenant - Always encouraging.

Carlos (desk11desk12) - he probably inspired everybody with his dios and made us realize, as did the Lieutenant, that figures didn't just have to sit on a shelf.

UK Reb - for his magnificent Civil War creations.

Again, apologies to those that I have inadvertently omitted.

Brad

Hi All,

I would begin my shout out by saying thanks to Shannon for asking me to join the forum. I was a bit of an oddity at the beginning of the forum because I was primarily a Glossy collector with W Britains and Marlborough being the main area I was focused upon unlike the bulk of the original members I wasn't a K&C WWII guy. Not to say that I dont have a few of Andy's pieces in my kit bag.

Now on to some members that I would thank for their friendship and influence over the years:

Wadepat a great friend with an amazing collection of Durbar figures I will drop in one of these days!

Currahee Chris also a great friend who has eaten the same dust I have and been on many of the same dusty tank trails too! Hell on Wheels!

Andanna a really remarkable guy with a very cool collection I look forward to sitting in a beer garden discussing it one of these days.

Warrior who has an amazing collection and I think out look on all things Boston especially his excellent color commentary on Baseball many thanks for the laughs!

Desert Kiwi another guy who has a great outlook and I hope to meet up with on his home turf was there in 95 and hope to get back again with the Mrs in the not too distant future to see the collection and of course a beer to two...

The Baron because of his encyclopedic memory and knowledge of all things TS related again I hope to meet up one of these days!

JohnnyBach for his ability to spin a tale and also for his step by step demonstrations on the repair and revitalization of well played with figures, you have a great collection and I would love to see it some day in person.

Thebritfarmer for your friendship and discussions of all things Britains!

UCLA1967 for sharing not only your amazing collection but that of several other friends of yours always a thrill when you post some photos especially of the new items being produced for you.

There have been many others who have come and gone either due to changing hobbies or moving on to the high ground of Fiddlers Green like Cardigan and Chuck Harris gone but certainly not forgotten RIP Gents

Meeting Rob and UKReb and Wraith and so many other great folks when I attended the London Show a few years ago was also about as good as it gets! One of these days I will get to Chicago so Pat can show me the ropes and perhaps where he acquired that amazing magic tote...:salute::

Thanks to one and all and sorry if I forgot someone it wasnt intentional.

Looking forward to a many more years here!

Dave

Gentle Friends,

I have hesitated to post on this thread for fear I would leave out members who deserved to be mentioned. However, I am determined to recognize some of the forum folks who have made significant contributions to my hobby life. I apologize if I miss someone for that is not my intent.

1. Compton Creel: Many of you may not know Compton, but he is a member of the forum. He has not posted for several years, but he is very much alive and well. Compton is the person who encouraged me to return to my childhood hobby of collecting toy soldiers and, for that, I owe him a debt I can never fully repay.

2. Shannon and Pete Reuss: When I retired in 2005, I treated myself to attending my first Chicago Toy Soldier Show. I had never been to such a show and I was unaware of how to appropriately participate in the room trading. Consequently, I wandered around the hotel and slowly began to enter some of the vendors' rooms. Every time I passed the Treefrog room, I noticed there were many people inside and they were all laughing, and talking among themselves. They all seemed to know one another and they were certainly having a good time, so, feeling a bit like an outsider, I would pass the room and continue to look for treasure in other rooms. I had never heard of Treefrog Treasures until that first Chicago show.

By the time I next attended the Chicago show, I had found and joined the Treefrog Forum, so I knew who Shannon and Pete were, but had never met them face to face. Armed with a bit more knowledge regarding Treefrog and its owners, I entered the room and introduced myself to Shannon and Pete. Much to my pleasant surprise, they both seemed to take a sincere interest in me and in my collecting. Little did I know at the time how much our friendship would grow, but I am certainly indebted to them for helping me become increasingly involved in the hobby and for the warm friendship they have extended to me.

3. John Rio (Leadmen) and Konrad Gundlach (Kogu): I probably should also thank the Chicago Toy Soldier show as well as individual people because it was at the show that I met John and Konrad. Both of these folks know more about toy soldiers than I can ever know and, for some reason completely unknown to me, they became two of my closest personal and toy soldier friends. I believe it was last year, Brad (Jasseum) said to me at the show, "I never see you without the John and Konrad being present." John has described us as "the Three Musketeers." Konrad has labeled us "the Three Amigos." I simply refer to us as "Larry, Curley, and Moe." I leave it to you to determine which label best describes our friendship.

4. Dave Namiot: Dave is one of those incredible people who have the capacity to be instant friends with others. Early in my participation in the forum, Dave contacted me and introduced me to the wonderful world of the Delhi Durbar. And, we all know where that lead! You are correct! It lead to total financial ruin! ^&grin Until Dave was called to his present home in Poland, we would talk on the phone at least weekly. I miss those calls, but I am proud that we still stay in close touch. He is a special friend.

5. Brad Lewin (Jazzeum): Brad was the first moderator on the forum and he was the moderator when I joined the forum. As a new member, I watched his supervision of the forum with great interest. He was always fair and he did not let his personal collecting preferences enter into his duties as the moderator. Little did I know at the time, that one day I would be engaging in the same role he performed so well. He set a high standard as a moderator and he served as an excellent role model for me.

6. Tommy Allison: Many years ago, I used to make annual trips to Texas to visit family. And, on one of those trips, I learned of Tommy and his magnificent collection. During one of those annual trips, I contacted Tommy and asked if he might be willing to show me his collection. As you would expect, Tommy was more than happy to accommodate me and we spent an entire afternoon viewing his expansive collection. It was a delightful, if not overwhelming, experience and Tommy and I have remained friends since that time. Occasionally, we talk on the telephone and compare hobby notes. And, he is always interested in the treasures I find at the Chicago Show.

7. Damian Clark: Damian and I have never met face to face, though I wish we could. Damian's tastes and interests in toy soldiers largely parallel my own. He is a great source of information and a very special friend. He is also a very accepting man as he willingly puts up with some of the nonsense I send him via e-mail.

8. Rob, Simon (Wraith), and Michael Steinrock (the Kilted Vampire): The humor these fellows present on the forum has kept me endlessly entertained. Their frequent tongue in cheek comments adds a flavor and a touch that is unmatched on the forum and I thank them for the laughs.

Doubtless, there are many other folks I should mention, but those listed above come readily to mind. And, at my age, remembering anyone's name, much less their wonderful contributions to my life, can be a significant challenge! ^&grin

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

I to want to begin by thanking Pete & Shannon for this wonderful forum!! To me, this is "the hub" for all things hobby related. Like many others, I may not post a lot but I do check in every day and several times a day at that!

Life is all about relationships and the people you meet & befriend. I have made several good friends here on the forum. Some of the friendships I've made here have gone beyond the forum and have had an extraordinary impact on me and my family. This place isn't just about sharing the great hobby we all love but also about finding like-minded people and sharing our lives with one another.

My shout outs go to:

1) Randy (PolarBear)-- a dear friend who has become a part of my family

2) Andreas (Andanna)-- my faithful toy soldier show companion and awesome friend

3) Mike Miller (mikemiller1955)-- all round great guy and a joy to speak with over the phone--would love to meet in person one day!

4) George (Warrior)-- wonderful sense of humor and one of the best dealers in the hobby

5) Konrad (kogu) -- good to see you back here K! We are identical in our tastes for just about everything in this hobby.

6) Brad James (the Baron)-- another good man here on the forum with such a vast knowledge of our hobby. Love the fantastic work you do at putting on the Valley Forge show!!

7) Larry Allen -- a real nice guy who shares a love for the AWI

I hope I didn't leave anyone out. There are countless others here who I have communicated with over the years. Everyone is always so helpful in finding hard to get figures or to offer dio assistance/advice or to buy/sell things. Thanks especially to John (Leadman), Bob (UKReb) and to Al (lancer).

Finally, it's an awesome thing to be able to experience this hobby with the guys from the UK, from "down-under" and all the other countries represented here. To think that we here in the US can share a common bond with our fellow toy soldier enthusiasts in other parts of the world is to me mind-boggling! I love getting their persectives on history and having them share their country's view on events.

Thanks also to Brad (Jazzeum), Dave and Pat Wade for all their work as forum moderators (past & present).

Mark

I'm inspired by all those who devote their time & efforts to make such wonderful, detailed and immersive dioramas as seen on this forum.
You do great work; Thank you!
