Does anyone collect FoV 1/72 tanks and if so, any observations about any of the releases to date?

I collect 1/72 diecast tanks and aircraft as they provide good detail at a reasonable cost and don't take up much display space. I only have a few models from the FOV 1/72 range as the detail isn't as good as Dragon or Hobby Master which are the current market leaders in that scale.

I have the FOV Churchill, which is actually a Crocodile flame thrower version but it's not mentioned on the packaging. I also have the M3 Halftrack, German Halftrack with rockets and the large Dragon Wagon tank transporter (sweet), as well as their mine roller Sherman. Basically I only get FOV stuff if the other companies don't make it. One good thing about FOV is that they usually include some figures with their models, and the detail isn't bad for the price.

Thanks OD. I have read that the Dragon models are mostly plastic now, is that accurate?

Yes there is very little metal in the Dragon models now, but some of the earlier versions were fairly heavy such as the Jagdpanther that I have three of.

You can still get the old Matchbox and CDC 1/72 models on eBay etc, they are not as well detailed as Dragon but have plenty of weight.

I don't get the 1/72s now but those early Dragon versions are awesome- the first Tiger I, the jagdpanther, the king tiger and Panther are as good as it gets in that scale

Thanks guys, that is good to know. How do you tell which are the early Dragons without actually picking them up? Are there specific model numbers to look for of some other indentifying number you can search for?

It has been a gradual loss in weight over the years and therefore it's difficult to be specific about the serial numbers. However the models numbered around 60100 and below are likely to be heavier than most. That said it is VERY hit and miss and varies between each prototype and variant.

Here's a good link with pictures of most 1/72 diecast military vehicles made complete with serial numbers: http://www.diecast72.com/

I copied and pasted these numbers from that excellent site Oz mentioned.
In my opinion these are the best ones in the range and contain the most metal. They are harder to come by though.

I think I have a few of these still boxed I need to check them out again. I was going to collect these but I stop because I'm low on space.

Ah, well let me know if you want to get rid of any of them. I just found the 6009 and 10 at reasonable prices.

Thank you Oz and Easy for your informative responses.

I have 60005, 60007 and 60008 boxed some of the others are opened and the rest are above 60010.

I would be interested in 6008 and a 60003 even if opened if you happen to have one. You can PM with details if interested.

I thought I would share what I came up with based on the great responses here:
A 60019 Sd.Kfz. 181 Tiger-I, a 60010 Panther G, an Armor, a Matchbox CDC Sherman and a Hobby Master M26 Pershing. Both Dragons seem quite nice, as do the HM and Matchbox tanks. The HM is probably the least desireable with a cast line running around the turret. Pardon the poor lighting.
