FOV vs. 21st Century (1 Viewer)

How about there modern line. Anyone like those ?
Charlie:p

Concerning the 2 companies, is there any size difference between them. Not interested in their listed scale, as each company does their own measure, but the physical size of similar models between F.O.V. and 21st Century?....Michael

To me, FOV hands down. I dig 21st, don't get me wrong but FOV I think are just way more durable and their selection is just far more broad- airplanes, tanks, tracks, choppers!!, etc.

I think the 1:32 scale figures for both companies are rubbish though. I like the battlescenes- you get decent dio pieces but the figures aren't even close to being there yet.

Has anyone else tried posing the FOV's (or 21st for that matter) with figs like Conte, KC, etc?? I did my SF dio using the KC figs and the FOV Bradley and Abrams- it works- not quite the same scale but it works.

I would actually like to buy more of the FOV stuff but between all my other projects, I just don't have the $$$

Chris,

The FOV armour looks cool with the Figarti Iraq War figures. Managed to get most of the Figarti guys when they were on special offer here at Treefrogs, and I've managed to pick up a fair few bits of FOV armour on ebay pretty cheaply (including 4 of the Abrams which look serious together ). Scale wise, they're about as close as it's going to get IMO.

On the subject of the FOV figures, I just picked up an Eastern Front Hanomag, and the 4 figures with this are significantly better than some of the earlier sets.

We probably have done the most modern Battle Scenes, and the FOV / Figarti combination is a killer. Figarti's figures were inconsistent in the past, but the Modern line is exceptional, and one of my favorites. Alex

Hey guys-

I did want to apologize here for saying the figures look like "rubbish"- I was out of line there and want to make everyone aware- please don't take my comments as if I am putting your figures down- that is hardly the case. I was just thinking on the drive to work yesterday that those words may have been pretty harsh. I love talking to everyone about their collections and seeing what everyone has done with their stuff.

What was meant though was that it seemed like there is a disparity between the vehicles and the troopers. I guess, for me any rate, FOV does such a bang up job on their vehicles that I just thought it would transfer over to their troopers as well.

So, I do mean it with all sincerety, I didn't want anyone to take my comments the wrong way. I guess I am just puzzled when looking at those sets as they spent so much time and effort really getting the details out of the vehicles and then the troopers seemed to not get the same amount of love. :D

Take care guys and again, no offense was meant :eek:

I don't think there's any need to apologise Chris and I agree 100% with what you say. Bang for buck, I think they're vehicles are superb. I personally think it was just a few silly things that let the earlier figures down, such as the muppet like hands, tiny rifles and the fact that the weapons don't sit well in the figures. I'm no expert in the manufacturing process, but I'd have thought those things could have been addressed. Then, for the price, they'd be very good.

Their later offerings seem to have addressed these issues in the main. As Alex has said though, the Figarti modern troops with the FOV vehicles - they rock!

No Simon, I disagree- I did really feel compelled to apologize- it just didn't come off right. I used to always get upset when I would go to dealers when I was a younger man and want like all heck to buy the latest Britain figs but could at best afford the marx repaints. Some dealers would scoff and I felt second rate. It was always kind of comical to me because that was when I was in High School and a young enlisted soldier in the army. Here were these guys were a good majority of them never served and I just felt second rate.

I dunno, after looking at my words, I just felt like some folks might take it the wrong way and I didn't want that. It is different to criticize one's one collection. I own a few of the FOV's and my brother in law has the 21Cent stuff. I dunno, I just didn't like how I was coming off and sometimes on these forums, where we don't have the interpersonal communication, our messages can get scrambled- it is good to see that the folks like yourself didn't get miffed by it.

Take Care,
CC

Get miffed? Heck no!

I spend (probably too much of) my time on this forum cause I like to chill out here. I get enough aggro at work to come home and get it too.

I think 21stC and FOV are good for the industry. I think in a lot of cases, it's these manufacturers that will bring new blood / youngsters in to this hobby with reasonable pieces at reasonable prices. I just wish that our ASDA (UK Walmart) carried the 21stC line as it does in the States. It would bring the hobby to a far greater audience than the model shops / toy soldier shops alone.

It's interesting looking at this from a childs perspective. Whilst on holiday last year, I took my 12 year old nephew to Maison Militaire Toy Soldier shop. Of all the ranges and manufacturers on display (of which there were plenty), he wanted the FOV German Infantry set, cause they were 'way cool' with extra bits and accessories.
Fortunate really, because nephew or no nephew, I wasn't spending any more than 10 quid on him.

He's since had painted metal sets from me for Christmas (Britains / Frontline), but he's not bothered about them. Go figure...

I think there's been quite a bit of improvement with FOV figures. Especially the 2 hanomag sets. The winter one has some excellent poses and the summer one has that great scene with the soldier supporting his injured buddy and firing with his MP40.

The Flak 88 is also a work of art.

21st century released 2 excellent sets last year. The 6 pack Russian infantry and the 6 pack of Japanese infantry. They are quite nicely posed and painted to a good standard.
I believe they also have a British para set in the works which would be worth looking out for.

Didn't know about the Brit Para set. Thanks for the heads up.

Simon

It was pictured on the back of the Japanese and Russian infantry boxes last year but i don't think it's come out yet.

CC, reading your statements were not to harsh. I think everybody agrees they would like to see more improved FOV figs. That is constructive critisium, and that is how these companies learn what we like. I'm sure the folks at FOV have heard worst statements. I believe they are getting better, and I agree their armour for the price is the best. I also like what the new 21st cent. figs have done with their figs, Jap,Rus. I did not read any real attack on the company, you just expressed your thoughts. The fact that you served your country, in my opinion gives you even more lead way. Thank you and express your opinion by all means, Mike.:)

Thank you Mike. Those FOV vehicles are really cool. I may have to realign the Defense Budget to pick some more of them up. I really like the fighter planes they have been putting out plus a lot of the modern vehicles.

Plus, they do a great Blackhawk and Apache!! Can't go wrong with those in your arsenal.

I do have about four sets of the modern military. I have not deboxed them yet. I have not bought any armour for them yet. I just get so caught up making things for my current stuff, that I have not had the time for newer ones. In the future I want to make little dio's of the Iraq War. I still wish 21st and FOV would scrap their figs, and make their tanks and jeeps to Conte, TSSD scale. That would really be the nuts. Mike:)

I enjoy both. I have been buying a lot of the 21st Century aircraft lately but that may be because that is all Walmart here stocks and we have no Target or Toys R Us. I buy most of my FOV and 21st toys online.

I do think FOV has better quality and accessories. I just wish they would expand the line-up and not do so many repaints. I would like to see some of the newer American military vehicles like the Stryker and the new armoured military police vehicle.
