Just saw three episodes of the BBC series, "Foyle's War" which stars Michael Kitchen. I've long admired BBC mystery shows such as, "Rosmary and Thyme" and other shows such as, "Robin Hood", "Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars".

"Foyle's War" backdrop is set in WWII in Hastings, England. Kitchen stars as Christopher Foyle the detective chief superintendent. I found each episode to be a good mystery that lives up to standard of "Murder She Wrote". :)

The three episodes I saw were:
  • "Invasion"
  • "Bleak Midwinter"
  • "The Funkhole"
I did find the portrayal of the Americans in the episode, "Invasion" to be at bit biased!:D;) Lastly, I would like to say kudos to the Brits on the forum here and their great television mystery series!:)

You should check them all out. I think there were five or six seasons. They're all very good, much, much better than the likes of Murder She Wrote.

I have started Poirot and Morse collections recent..I have always been a Jeremy Brett, Sherlock Holmes fan. Then there is Foyle, Inspector Frost and Midsomer Murders...The British always seem to get mystery series, right. We tend to fumble around them, throwing in gimmicks ( Monk, Psych etc. )for entertainment, rather than the story being the murder and the solution, itself..Michael

You're right the Brits are the best when it comes to a good murder mystery, I do enjoy Psych and Monk however.

All excellent shows Michael, I always knew you had good judgment ;)

Growing up, I used to think Perry Mason was the only mystery series. I had near forgotten how entertaining they were...Michael

Top notch murder mystery series, in my opinion. Sorry to see it end. But at least closure was given to that series; "Cadfael" was pulled after less than 15 of its many stories.

I loved Cadfael! I ended up reading all the books, and was really impressed by how faithful the TV version was to the stories. I thought it was Derek Jacobi's best performance since I Claudius (which in my opinion was the best TV miniseries ever).

I caught one episode of Foyle's War and was really impressed. One of these days I will have to try to catch the series from the beginning.

I forgot all about this one..A classic mystery with great acting. My favorite night used to be Sunday night at 9:00, when I would watch all the English mysteries on PBS. They stopped doing that for a long time. Lovejoy was another quirky mystery that disappeared from our TV years ago...Michael
