Konrad has very kindly insisted that I paint some more Tradition of London castings for him! ;) This painting thread will be a little different, as Konrad will be supplementing my step-by-step posts with info and photo’s of his own.

We have moved on from the FIW by some years to the Napoleonic period and the figures represent an Officer, Eagle Bearer, Trumpeter and three Troopers of the French Chasseurs a Cheval de la Garde 1804-1815.

To start the thread off here are pictures of the figures taken from the Tradition site. I will be posting the usual photos of the castings and the assembly and undercoating over the next day or so.

Looking forward tho seeing these figures come to life over weeks to come.

I have been a bit dissapointed in the painting from Tradition in thier toy soldier range especially when you see the castings and the amount of detail thats there. Maybe thats part of the reason I love to paint thier figures, as I can do much better, but I do love painting.... collection the necessary evil that follows :)

Hi Jeff,
very cool to see the Chasseur's Charge is coming up. This, like all the other step-by-step threads, will be great to watch and see them slowly come alive.
Very much looking forward to it.
I picked this set of Toy Soldiers due to a book I have which shows beautiful paintings of the Chasseurs a Cheval and other mounted troops.
It is "Napoleon's Elite Cavalry, Cavalry of the Imperial Guard, 1804-1815, The Paintings of Lucien Rousselot", Text by Edward Ryan.
What I found most astonishing is the variety of uniforms, an officer, a trumpeter or even an NCO had to have at that time.
There were parade uniforms, walking-out dress, sunday walking-out dress (Winter), sunday walking-out dress (Summer), light undress code, society dress, field uniform, undress uniform, escort dress. I don't know if I covered them all but it the variety is amazing.
What I would like to do while Jeff is painting these figures, I want to occasionaly post some pictures of the variety of dresses that the Chasseur a Chevals were wearing as part of Napoleon's Elite Cavalry.
It is amazing how colorful and splendid the uniforms of the Napoleonic era were.
Oh, colorful ...., that reminds me: Hi Simon, did you know that the uniforms of the Chasseurs were "GREEN" under that red pelisse? :D

The first two pictures show the Chasseurs in Service Dress and the second picture especially features an Eagle-Bearer.

Jeff, Konrad,

This thread promise to be fascinating !

Michel

Right up to the point where Konrad realises that Jeff has run out of green paint, and his Chasseurs will be arriving in a nice shade of violet. ;)

Violet?...Hmmm, I hadn't thought about that! ;):D

Here we have the bags of castings as supplied by Tradition. A few parts to assemble, now where's me blowtorch?

Jeff

I'm looking forward to Jeff doing his wizardry. My RHA done by Jeff always elicits comments from people coming to my office :)

This should be a great thread; the Chasseurs a Cheval are a great subject and I very much look forward to your treatment of them Jeff.

Glad you guys are looking forward to this paint fest. :)

Eagle Bearer before and after assembly. Hopefully they will all be assembled by tomorrow morning

Cheers.

Jeff

Great stuff Jeff...as is par!
Would it have been easier to paint the flag while detached? Just wondering, as I have not undertaken figure painting yet.
Mike

That does look great, Jeff,
it's amazing how much difference a plain coat of primer does make compared to the bare assembled castings.
Looking forward to this charge.
Konrad

hi Konrad,

have really enjoyed the illustrated progress of Jeff's painting exploits on these excellent figures. I have though enjoyed also the extracts from your book which shows the cavalry paintings of Rousselot and the variations in uniforms etc and I was rather looking forward to more to come, but nothing seems to have happened since the end of October with no new posts from either yourself or Jeff on this particular topic.

Martin,

Unfortunately due to family matters, which I’m afraid, meant a temporary break from painting, hopefully I will feel like painting again in the next week or so……

Thanks for taking an interest :)

Jeff

Yo Troopers.Yeh and the Irish have no wish to see anything about the French Cheats for a few months. Thank you very much:mad:.
Bernard.
