French Crimean War! (1 Viewer)

Hi Jeff, What is the paint that you used for the nice repaint? I used Vellejo before but it turns out that the color was too dull compared with K&C original paint. Your repaint looks OK.

You may consider getting a few of the Hachette 1/30 French Foreign Legion figures, I am also disappointed that K&CUK had discontinued the crimea series. I also recently bought the Frontline Figures' Lords Lucan and Reglan and asked Gerald Prime to repaint them in Matt for me but they are slightly smaller in scale.

I use Lifecolor matt acrylic paints made by a company called Astromodel from Italy, it was a new line in a local model shop and I picked up a box set of 12 base colours for £18 which I didn't think was too bad.

Yes, those Hachette figures are nice, I will have to keep an eye out for any at the London show at the end of the month.

Thanks

Jeff

Thanks cantinetozzo for answering the questions about the Hachette figures. It took me a lot of time with painstaking search on ebay french site to buy them... but there are more stocks and variety available and its cheaper on the french site. Just make sure that they agree to ship outside of France.

My only reference for these neatly sculpted and painted green uniform Hachette figures is from this site
http://1815-1918.blogspot.com/2010/08/foreign-legion-1857.html

I like these figures because of the exceptional non-combat/non-parade poses, so different from the K&C generic issues. I really hope that Andy can provide more variety on the poses of 19thC figures.

As for the 1830 Foreign Legion figure with red pants on the far right, he has fought in Algeria and this figure is copied from the Osprey Men at arms #17 book. I had an idea of repainting the new Alamo Mexican Cazadores troops into French, though the weapon may not be correct

As for aujj65's repaint, I thought the French line infantry Crimean war uniform had 2 rows of buttons (double breasted coat) instead of a single row...

Thats awesome! Great job! As a big fan of 19th century French uniforms I must say that looks really cool ^&cool

Oberstoskar i'm trying to do the same thing, retracing all these beautiful and particular figures(my last buy the Sapper marching at the 14 july parade, and the Mexican adventure Legionnaire)..since i read from a K&C Collector Magazine some time ago (the one about the various K&C projects- nuber 21 if i recall) i'm trying to find all the strange figures on the market , the Fireman from Singapore,Benjamin Franklin and all the others..:)my personal collecting agenda:)My goal is to find the Soldier of Empire figure ...but is very rare..

I just bought the 24th Foot from Ebay UK seller 69birley. He may have another one a/v.

I really want to find Hachette Soldiers of British Empire Crimean War Coldstream Guard Officer figure, have you seen it before? Anyone can help me to get one in the London Show?

I plan to buy the entire series of K&C UK Crimea Coldstream guards only after I find this officer figure... to me, the set is incomplete without this excellent officer!

They are alright I suppose Jeff...............little more green and they would be fabulous:D!! Another great job by yourself.

Jeff,

nice work on the repaint, and looking at the figures (I have the bugler in my collection) I can see that the uniforms and equipment do match in nicely with the French uniforom of the day.

It is interesting that the Union troops did use French uniforms that they imported during the start of the conflict because the US industry couldn't provide uniforms on the scale required for the numbers under arms. I have read where many of the uniforms were too small for the larger American body, so were not used.

The organisaition of troops into Zouarve regiments is another aspect of the importation of uniforms. Also the use of Cantinieries was a French import too.

If you would like some more deatils of the French Uniforms used in Crimea send me a PM and I'll be able to do some photocopies / scans of the documents I was given by the original maker of Alma, when he first gave me some castings to paint, and then you may be able to convert some Voltiguers and get some green epaulettes too :)

Keep up the good work,

John

Thanks! :smile2:

Yes, a bit of green is required so the next figure will be a repaint to represent a Chasseur a' Pied so the epaulettes remain green with the yellow trim! ^&grin

Ah ah ah ..you were the one who stole me the 24th soldier at the auction...!:)No ..i'm joking..!I've seen the officer in one of the threads of this forum, but never on Ebay...:(..talking about the Crimea , i loved that range (even if due to the budget and the change Euro/Pound i don't buy anymore on KCUK), let's hope in the Collector Club to produce some of the personalities missing in the range..think of Lucan or Raglan..:(
