French Line Infantry Available for Order (1 Viewer)

Well I am about to pre-order some of these fine figures and had a question about future additions to the line. Will the French infrantry have some action poses with various reloading positions similar to the Barvarian figures like NAP0005, 0006, 0014 and 0015?

It appears you are getting excited about the upcoming releases as I am. I have a display almost put together and when the figures I have on pre-order arrive from First Legion, I will insert them and post some pictures here on the forum. They will be up against another manufacturer here on this site, so it should give everyone a good idea about scale and quality.

Without committing myself to too many specifics about our the future of our product ranges, the answer to your question is yes. However, as you by now realize that we tend to release by historic unit. The French 61st Line was done as advancing with enough marching figures to do full units just marching if that's what you prefer. The Bavarians were done as firing line. So, while you'll see firing and loading figures, you probably won't see them as the 61st line.

If you think about it, there are really only 5 or so general pose groups appropriate for a Napoleonic unit and probably 3 different uniform periods (for the sake of this discussion). Standing, Marching, Advancing, Charging, or Firing line and revolutionary (pre-1807), 1806-1813, and Bardin uniforms respectively. Think of this as a matrix and expect us to release different French units made up of different pose groups and different uniform periods over time. You could also nearly double the possible combinations of this matrix by adding winter campaign dress to it (i.e greatcoats). Thus, you'll get your loading and firing troops, but they'll also come with an appropriate command set of new offiers, drummers, standard bearer, and elite companies. So, when we do another 1812 french line infantry (usable between 1806-1813) unit for Borodino, a good bet would be that it would be in firing line and that the unit we select will have the grenadiers in bearskins rather than in Shakos like the 61st.

Of course, bear in mind, our release schedule is pretty well set for about 8-10 months, so it could be awhile before you see the next french infantry unit. British, Russians, Westphalians, Wurttemberg, Nassau, and Brunswick among a few other things to be released first! (AND YES, LOTS OF CAVALRY!):D

I hope this answers your question.

Best,

Matt

Thank you for your usual prompt and complete response Matt. I understand your point on the different pose groups but it would seem to me that any unit was just as likely to have some version of any of those groups as any other unit. Thus while your 61st may feature marching, advancing and charging, it does, appropriately have firing figures and if you fire, at some point you may have to reload. Of course any diorama maker would like to have as many pose variations as possible so you can vary your scenes and stories. Afterall, "Allah [does] love wondrous varieties.":D:D

Actually, the firing voltigeurs are from the 85th line and the charging figures are from the 57th line. We did this to provide some additional variety (Allah would be proud!) given that it was our first release of french. We may add the remaining portions of the 57th and 85th to finish them off as full charging/firing units respetively. Moving forward with new units, however, it will be as I said below...

Fair enough, it seems I glossed over the unit distinctions in this first release since I was planning on picking first the poses I liked best. I guess I will start with a mixed unit for now;;) at least until we see those "LOTS OF CAVALRY".:D:D

I completely forgot, have you seen the Wurttemberg wounded officer that will ship with Murat? I guess he will be our first official casualty release. As shown in the image below, he's sitting on the ground holding a cloth over his wound. This should give you an idea of the type of casualties we'll release. Yes, we'll do the stone dead as well, but I find casualty figures like this to be much more interesting.

This figure, along with Murat and 3 other Wurttemberg Jaegers (which can be seen in our gallery) will be out in August sometime.

Some of my Ancestors come from this region. Thanks for the heads up!

Matt,

Those are just awesome!

I suppose you are going to add one of each to your own personal collection? :)

Thanks.

Yeah, as far as my partners are concerned, I am adding only one of each to my personal collection. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

One of each would be nice (although I just doubled on the French firing figures;)) but it will take a while to get there, easier at wholesale though.:D

Is there an update on the French Line ship date?

Hrmm...I thought I had replied to this, but apparently it didn't show up.

The ship date has been pushed back about 7-10 days. Non-US Orders will ship next week sometime with US orders a few days after that. We apologize for the delay and are looking forward to getting the figures to you all.

That sounds great and I would love to but my wife may balk at plane fare, unless we both went of course.:D
