T.E. Lawrence Outside Cairo, Summer 1916

Lawrence's extensive knowledge of Middle Eastern archaeology and geography made him a valuable asset to the British Army in that theater during World War I.

Note:

"T.E. Lawrence was only 5'5" tall. Though robust, lively and intelligent his height was possibly stunted by a dose of mumps in childhood. At that time, the average height for men was 5'9". Lawrence's head looked too big for his body. He was very conscious of his stature, and from an early age set out to strengthen himself by cycling everywhere."
