Have you ever wondered about the effects of your cabinet lighting on the colors of your figures? Anyone experienced sun fade? Is florescent lighting better than a blub? Effects of spot lights on your collection? Comments welcome.

I don't mean this to sound facetious, but my figures are kept in a windowless closet where they can only be viewed with nightvision goggles...ok...I was wrong...that was facetious. ;)

I think I remember reading something recently about lighting. I think Fluorescent is best as halogen & incandescent give off to much heat and can damage the finish on figures.

Sunlight is the worst and I have had tinting placed on a couple of windows. My sets are behind glass in cabinets that have blubs designed for lighting collections but heat is a real problem if the lighting is left on for long periods of time. I placed a viking ship on top of one cabinet only to find out that the heat from underneath in the cabinet had melted the paint on the bottom of the ship and affixed it to the cabinet. Fluorescent lighting is bad to fade also if placed inside the cabinet. It is ok in a room and perhaps the cabinet glass diffuses the damaging rays somewhat. I guess the bottom line is that you don't leave the lights on for too long. The usual curio cabinet lighting is not designed for these types of collections. I will try to come up with some more information and hopefully some of the forum members have some ideas. On the other hand, maybe Scarlet Pimpernel has the ultimate solution with his night vision googles.
