Cheers Squadron Members:

I was just wondering if any of you collected the Air Wars series at all. I was also wondering if anyone had purchased any of the new matte/redo sets at all. I have quite a few of the glossy sets & have them displayed with my K&C aircrew figures in a diorama & they look great. I have the Memphis Belle crew set displayed with the massive Armour 1:48 Scale Memphis Belle & it actually looks pretty good & not out of place. If there are some Frontline aviation collectors out here-where do you purchase your sets? Most of the ones I bought were years ago from a company in Kentucky called TNC Enterprises. I have also purchased some various figures via eBay. Thanks for reading.

Marc,

I have the glossy set of the two German aces which I purchased with a local dealer. I have them with the K & C German aces and they look great. I've bid on a couple of ebay auctions but lost. The only other place that I know who has them is Hobby Bunker. I would like to get some of the RAF ones but just haven't done it yet.

As far as the glossy Frontline figures go, I used to have the Memphis Belle Crew displayed with my 1:32 scale K&C Flying Fortress (Sentimental Journey), but I gave it to Retired Air Force Pilot Bruce Whitman, who actually flew B25 Mitchells. I have multiples of all of the Japanese Pilots, deck officers and deck crew sets, displayed with my K&C Zeros and Val. I know that Lawrence Lo has all of the RAF and AVG (lying Tiger) sets. They are all great figures. I have never collected the matt versions, but I am sure they are also excellent figures.

If I'm not mistaken, Larry also has some of the Japanese Frontline pilots.

Tally Ho Squadron Members:

Glad to see there are some other aviation collectors out there. Thanks for sharing the information & dealer tip. I am thinking about getting some more AVG figures to go with my Figarti P-40 Diorama. I must admit that I like the new matt finish Memphis Belle crew even though I already have the glossy set. Are the new/redo matt sets limited as well like the previous glossy sets?

Check Six,
Beaufighter

Just about every set of Frontline figures I've ever seen comes with a card indicating it is a limited edition, set number [fill in blank] of 500.

Thanks Louis-I figured as much but did not want to assume that their newer sets were also limited production runs.

Tally Ho,

I have all of Frontline's orginal glossy Air War series but have not yet purchased any of newer matt/redo sets. According to Gerard of Frontline, the newer matt sets are slightly difference from the original glossy ones, with arms, heads and poses altered. I purchased all of my sets directly from Frontline in Hong Kong.:)

Steven,

Do you have a list of the glossies put out by Frontline?

BTW, are you still coming to the Symposium?

Didn't Frontline also make a modern F14 Tomcat crew (Pilot and Weapons Officer).
Yes, the lone set in Frontline's "Modern Air Wars series": MAW1. Another similar theme is the "Glen Miller Band" series conprised of 6 sets and the PS1 Air Aces in the "World War 1 Personality Sets.":)

Tally Ho Louis:

AFFIRMATIVE! Just checked-it is MAW1-F-14 Crew, Pilot and Weapons Officer. I have a quick question for you in regards to your K&C de Havilland Mosquito. Is yours missing its tailwheel per chance? Perhaps missing is the wrong term-was it made without a tailwheel? Thanks.

Beaufighter-OVER

Hi Louis-I never had the Beaufighter. It was the Mosquito that I had & it was built without a tailwheel & I was wondering if yours (Mosquito) was the same.

Thanks,
Marc

I'm sorry Mark, I wasn't reading carefully, I saw your handle (Beaufighter) instead of the plane you were interested in (the Mosquito). I, to my chagrin, do not have a DeHaviland Mosquito in my collection. Perhaps you should direct the question to Steven Chong. He has a close friend with a K&C Mosquito, and can probably get an answer for your question.

ROGER THAT Louis. I had a Mosquito & sold it years ago as it was historically incorrect & missing so many detailed parts, etc. I was in that "absolute" historically correct mode especially with that plane as I study it & collect actual parts from it. Now, I just wich I had it back even as simple as it was back then!!! I am sure Steven will see this post as he is always on top of everything! Thanks for getting back to me. Hey, any luck with that guy from California I told you about in reference to K&C warbirds, etc.?

He has some, and is willing to send me photos to use in the book, but is not ready to part with them at this time.

I just made a deal to pick up 5 K&C Warbirds, which are going to be divided among me, Hans, Larry, Brad and another friend. I have 10 glossy K&C Afghans and a set of glossy K&C Louisiana Tiger Zoaves coming from the same source.
