Hi,
I found this in the bottom of my box of Frontline Sudan items, does anyone know if this is definitely Frontline? I can't remember and the bases bug me.

Hello Tom,

If there is an "FF" with/without date inscribed on each of the bases of the camels, then Frontline it is.

The figures look to be from an Indian Army Camel Regiment.

Regards, Raymond.:)

Tom, you can email Gerard Prime of Frontline, He can give you the straight scoop on the figures as to them being Frontline or not. His email address is on the Frontline webpage.

Thanks Guys,

I was contacting Gerard in the meantime. I have a number of the Sudan sets, the figures look good, it is just the bases that bug me.

Tom

Are those bases sheet metal? The figures look very nice. I have a couple of other Indian figures but I do not think those bases look exactly like those.

Tom,

I had a few Frontline (but not camels) when I was interested in that series and I a bunch last year in Chicago and these don't look Frontline to me. Mike Tarantino (ucla1967), who used to participate a lot here and is a great guy, can probably (actually I know he can) identify these. Let me know if you want his email.

Tom , the bases , those "sheeet metal " ones remind me of Tradition castings. I do not know if Tradition made camels of this type...
Good luck Greg

Greg,

That is along the lines, but the actual sculpting matches my frontline khybers!, but they definitely have the 54mm Tradition/Stadden bases. ALymer did similar bases, but the sculpting is not Alymer nor matches anything in the historical Alymer Catalog I have.

PS, See you in Chicago!

Tom, the painting and the bases don't match Frontline style from my experience. The black lines in the folds of the clothing doesn't look right. Also the bases on all of my mounted Frontline figure are about 1/8th of an inch thick.

Agree on the painting, but the sculpt is similar, it will be interesting when I find out!

The Game is still afoot. It is not Frontline. It is not Alymer. The only last possibility is Tradition castings, but not positive on that, the painting is pretty good, factory like on the camel blankets

Tom

The camels look like Britains. Could they be a homemade "kitbash" type of effort?

Definitely not Britains either. They are definitely tinplate base. Question on kit. The Camel is painted pretty darn good, so could be if it was a good painter! Definitely older regardless.

Hi Tom

I was looking at some other figures recently on ebay and they had similar bases to these really interesting figures. the ones I was looking at were IDed as Stadden. Just an idea since the bases of the figures I was looking at were exactly like these.

Dave,
its a good idea! And the one I am leaning toward. THe bases match the Stadden by Tradition kits as well as the figures themselves, I am declaring mystery finished on this one!

Tom

Hi Tom,

Glad to help. They are really well done figures, if they were in kit form the guy who made them was a master.
