Fury Movie Review (2 Viewers)

Hi guys,
Saw the movie today & I say to all war buffs see it once it's worth it
then decide the pros & cons. Also appreciate the effort put in making it.
Some awesome scenes & some unrealistic....ending.
over all I enjoyed it.
Cheers.

As usual, I'm 3 months late to the party, but I finally saw "Fury" today. I liked it for what it was, an entertaining war film. I bought into the war-weary vets and the FNG. Thought the technical side of the film was outstanding, the tanks, weapons, unis, grit, all of it. Especially liked the sound editing. Only 2 things caught me as odd, #1 being when the Tiger moved out of a protected position to engage the Shermans. The Tiger has all the advantage from cover and could have picked off the Shermans at will. Moving into the open negated that advantage, especially since a Tiger couldn't fire accurately when on the move. Even so I got a real charge out of seeing a real Tiger in operation. The second odd thing was the end battle. Any CO worth his salt would have sent a recon patrol to check out a crossroads with an "abandoned" tank sitting in the middle. Upon discovering an occupied tank, said CO would have then sent a tank killer team out to solve the problem. No way the column gets shot to pieces by a disabled tank. As many of you said, weak ending. Otherwise I really rather enjoyed the movie and thought it moved along well. Although he had a small part, I thought Jason Isaacs was terrific as the Captain. I am very interested in seeing the deleted scenes and such on the new disc release. I would say that for me, it was the technical aspects of the movie that I enjoyed most. Worth seeing. -- Al

Also saw it only yesterday evening, so I’m also late to join the wagon. Speaking of which, that’s exactly what the final battle reminded me of: old Hollywood westerns, with a wagon surrounded and attacked by countless Indians, that die in catastrophic numbers, more than the shots fired on them, and never get even close to the wagon LOL! When would an SS battalion, equipped with dozens of panzerfausts, right at nightfall, act like that? Only in Fury… Anyway, apart from the completely unrealistic ending, it was a great undertaking to have it made, with fantastic recreations of uniforms, equipment and the psychological state of mind of the front line troops at that place and time. IMHO certainly entertaining and worth watching!

Gents,

Saw it this past weekend too. The Aunt and niece scene was intense, but was wondering "where is this going?". I knew she was going to die in the bombing, but expected it to be better scripted like..."they waved at each other...he at the tank...she at the window...and then you here the screeching of the 88's and BOOM her building is hit...". What's his name...uh...Shia Lewolf...had welled up crying eyes the entire movie...don't know why. My man...Micheal Pena had a gold chain on over his uniform...really...could he have just played the lone Mexican-American character straight with out the gold (I'm bias of the stereotype). The other member of the tank crew I could barely understand his lines and the kid did a great job as the objector.

BUT-

Well crafted technically and visually. Great interior shots of the drama and team work inside the tank. Brutal stuff man.

Coming to this late. I just watched the DVD. Battle Ground (1949) meets Pvt Ryan.

Finally saw it when flying back home yesterday evening. Overall another Hollywood war movie well made albeit I agree with an unrealistic ending, especially when the German soldier finds the young tanker unarmed under the Sherman and walks away without capturing him...

The blueray version from Amazon boasts an extra 50 mins extended version ... Pleased to have your views if you have caught that version.

Yeah, definately some authenticity left to be desired but I am glad that they made the movie. Something new to watch, and there were a lot of good scenes in the film.

Just watched Fury on a flight coming back from Paris. Overall, I thought it was quite well done, especially the scene of the tanks working together with the infantry to take out the German defensive positions. It also portrayed the gritty and brutal reality of war. The final battle scene was cinematic entertaining, but left much to be desired tactically.
Cheers,

I just re-watched Fury last night...I had seen it at the theater when it was released...but missed a lot of the dialog...my Netflix had closed caption and I picked up a whole lot more from being able to decipher all the dialog during the loud battles...it was actually better the second time...great show!

I tend to have a different opinion as I watched it the other night, got the dvd from the library. I enjoyed it more the first time at the theatre. I fast forwarded it through that whole scene with the women and could only watch about half of the fial battle it was so unrealistic. Glad I didn't spend the $20 buying the dvd.

Hi Gary,
Should have read your note earlier, I spent the $20......saw a lot of unrealistic stuff.....opening scenes the German PAK40s were missing the Shermans square in an open field an insult to the German anti tank garrisons...and the supporting US infantry seemed to be drilled in WW1 tank tactics.....The tank crew stereotypes...^&grin
Later the ridiculous last battle.....enough anti tank rockets to blow a battalion and not one hitting the tank......{sm3}{sm3}{sm3}
Well, if I read it as a Hollywood film that attracts audiences that pay tickets to show other directors and financiers that WW2 films generate profit I am all in for it.....at least the films will be produced....As a factual action ..... never.....
Cheers

I thought it was quite weak
None of the characters seemed to hold my attention and the last battle was over done
Not a great movie

I'm in this camp; much more enjoyable at the theatre. I also fast forwarded through the entire scene with the women in the apartment.

And as comical as it sounds, the final battle was not as bad to watch the second time as it was the first; not sure why that was, but it is what it is.

And like you, I'm glad I did not buy this movie; if the mood strikes me, I'll just rent it off of Netflix again; it's also all over You Tube as well........................

I found it rather boring, I watched only some minutes of it. Unfortunately, Hollywood ww2 movies are decent only if made in cooperation with Germany like ' Valkirie"; otherwise it' s something rather far from historic realism, or boring. But I guess that americans just want a " patriotic" movie, and this sells well over there....The rest is just business.
