Hi everyone,

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Simon Gray I am from Belfast and collect King and Country figures from the Battle of the Bulge and the Alamo ranges.
I have a couple of questions regarding the Alamo range that I hope some of you might be able to help with. Firstly can anyone tell me if and when King and Country intend to add to the Alamo range. I would like to see some more defenders such as Almeron Dickinson and maybe some of the Irish defenders. My other question relates to the Kings X Store in San Antonio I am going to the Alamo on 11th April and was wondering if this store is still open. I have been there about four years ago and I know that King and Country have bought the shop over, but is it opened yet under the new owners. Any help with any of this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Simon, and welcome to the forum.Hope you enjoy it,its a great place to learn, have fun and share your hobby with others.I think the shop is already open i believe. As for additions to the Alamo range, well they are still fairly new so maybe not just yet.But i wouldn't have thought it would be to long as these are proving very popular.Maybe later in the year?.Keep an eye on Andys monthly dispatches and gossip on this forum for more info.

Hello Simon.

Welcome to the forum, there are quite a few of us from the UK here. I also collect K&C (Napoleonics and SOHK). You should be in for a treat going to Kings X and the Alamo.

Regards

Jeff

Simon

Welcome!

Alamo ?? What draws a fine Irishman to the Alamo?

Kings X is open and doing very well - its only a few hundred yards from the Alamo Park. You will enjoy it - bring your wallet - many good things await you. :D

Welcome aboard! The Kings X store is definitely open, and you will have a wonderful time visiting it, as Joan Smith is absolutely one of the treaures of this hobby, and sometimes Gordon Neilson, Andy's brother is also there. Gordon is a great guy, humerous, understated, and extremely talented. I think you will be blown away by his dioramas, including a 10 foot by 5 foot diorama of the Alamo.

As far as the Alamo range is concerned, Andy told us at the Symposium that he definitely planned to add to it, but only a few figures at a time, so look for maybe 3-4 new defenders and 3-4 new Mexicans later this year.

Thank you all for the kind welcome. in answer to question regarding an Irishmans interest in the Alamo. Davey Crockett has ancestors here, but the real reason is I am married to a Texan. So I do get to visit about once a year.

Ahhhh a Texas Girl - that makes sense.

Its a great line - I wish i could afford to get into it - I am already in too many as it is now!

I didnt realize Davey Crockett was Irish? Do tell more.....

David Crocketts ancestors came from Northern Ireland or the province of Ulster as it is called. There are several exhibitions here regarding his life. The Ulster Scots heritage would lay claim to Davey as one of their most famous sons.

Not to touch a live wire..........is that British Controled Northern Ireland ?

No offence taken our history and boundaries are very difficult to explain.
At the time of Crocketts ancestors I believe mid 18th Century all of Ireland was under British Control. This would have remained the case until 1921 when Ireland was partitioned. The part called Northern Ireland remained under British control and the South or Irish Republic was formed with its government operating from Dublin. Ireland also has four Provinces, Leinster Munster and Connaght which are all in the Irish Republic, Ulster which has nine counties is split between North and South with six counties in the North and three in the South. Many people from Northern Ireland will call the area Ulster although as I have just stated this is not strictly accurate.

With the Alamo the only danger is buying too many defenders who are all unique sculpts and not enough Mexicans to do the attacking. I fell into a similar trap with Rorkes Drift. You end up with close on 100 Brits but not enough Zulus. The Alamo range is really good

Yeah i always had that problem, plenty of Brits not enough Zulus.

Rob

Have definitely had that problem with the Alamo range. However I do have quite alot of Mexicans from the Conte range and they do go quite well with the King and Country range in this case. My only complaint would be that the K&C Mexicans uniforms are perhaps a bit too clean. This is not the case with Conte

Careful what you say mate. No suggesting that there may be other manufacturers in with a shout of producing a decent figure.
Just kidding

Welcome on board Simon, I've been away for the past few weeks so a belated welcome. Sam in the Irish Toy Soldier, Belfast is probably the only official K&C stockist on the island, although Paul Bacon in Ballymena occasionally used to sell K&C. I buy from over 20 different dealers, all great. Send me a p/m if you're looking for any particular set.
