There is a gap out there in AFV world for Hobarts funnies.I really hope either K&C or Figarti will hurl themselves into it very soon. There are Flail Tanks,Crocodiles,AVRE's,Fascine tanks,Calliope Shermans etc.I'd also like to see a Sherman with the hedgecutters as was on the Stuart K&C made sometime back. All these Tanks made a vital contribution on D Day and in the Battles for Normandy, they are an evocative part of that history and would make for some really interesting dio's.

Rob

What about the tank that floated ashore, though only like 3 got to the beaches?:D

Great idea, swimming Sherman with skirts.Although it would have to be either up or down i imagine, might be difficult to make the skirts work.

What a great suggestion for Commandoes. I'll second that one.

I don't care what everyone else says,Simon has his uses around here!;)

Bring on the Commandos!:)

What about an SAS Embassy attack set, you could tie it in with a building.

Dave

You forgot about a set of British officers meekly surrendering Singapore to the Japanese or another set of British officers ordering yet another charge of unsupported tanks into an Afika Korps AT gun ambush ;-)

Gary

Gary,

I don't think our British colleagues are going to find that too funny. Singapore, not to mention the surrender of Tobruk (which incidentally happened when Churchill was at the White House for meetings), was a grievous blow to the British at the time.

I'm sure the officers in Singapore didn't want to surrender, lets remember those who died too or were taken into captivity, for them it was no joke.

Har har!

My comments were inspired by the line about POWs making a daring attempt to escape. By the way most of my ancestry is Anglo-Scots-Irish (plus a generous dose of German).

That's it then. A done deal. Commandos it is then. If someone could just notify K&C HQ, and have them deliver my sets to me within the next week or two, that would be spiffing.

Glad I've got my uses ;)
BTW, what is everyone else saying?:p:eek:

PBI, my four blokes are totally knackered......

Then commandos, like the Airfix ones,

then funnies, AA guns, hang on>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You don't need to know mate,we all realise you were young and needed the money back then, and who knew someone would invent the 'internet' and put them on show for the whole world to see!!;)

Rob

I wouldn't hold my breath on these. DDay ones were done before not long ago and I don't think they did all that well.

Oh well you never know Brad.I thought the older Commando figures disappeared pretty quick when they were retired, but i may be wrong of course.

Rob

They may have but that's just because most things retired get snapped up quickly. On ebay they fare poorly which may be an indication of collector interest, although it could be evidence that more than enough were made to satisfy collectors.

I have to agree with Brad. The number of times a set is offered for sale on e-bay but especially it's typical price is the best indication of the market. It is not to difficult to guess at the most popular pieces of the last 4 years buy the consistent high prices they get. Winter Tiger, GMC Truck, Krupp Truck, any K&C 88, etc. These pieces often show up on e-bay and get consistently good prices. The US Quad 50 half-track and the grey Panzer II rarely show up on e-bay.

I still think they were very popular and theres nothing wrong with us having our own little campaign to get some more,i don't think its doing any harm.

:D I don't know about just needing the money back then, with various comapnies releases, now would seem a pretty good time to re-engage in some of my former money making exploits. Now if I could only get royalties....

Re Commandos, I think this is a bit of an unknown quantity if you take the type of figures I think most of us are angling after. Whilst I really liked the old DD57/8 etc sets, they were Royal Marines in a more conventional 'infantry combat' role. I'd like to see commandos cammed up, with comforters on a raiding party (kayaks / dinghies, ropes, dispatching guards etc). I'm not aware of these being done to any great extent, in matt 1/30 (or much in metal at all).

I also think it's a bit early to start drawing comparisons on the retired figure values and popularity. They haven't been retired that long. The Waffen SS figures such as WS50, 58, 60 etc are still barely reaching original retail as a rough guide, and there's rarely dispute over the popularity of these sets.

I wouldn't suggest those Waffen sets were unpopular, but I wouldn't put them in the popular category either - just average good quality sets. As for commandos already done, there was nothing really special about them - they were in similar combat poses to ordinary soldiers. But if new sets were geared up as commandos doing raids (kayaks / dinghies, ropes, dispatching guards etc) - now that would be new.
