I am guessing to the beach{sm4}

As forum members might be aware today and tomorrow the leaders of G20 and a few others are in Brisbane for their annual get together.

Today is a public holiday due to the G20 and travelling to work very quiet. Have not been into the CBD but radio just described it as a ghost town. The Mayor had been encouraging people to come into the city but pointed out TV news had been running a lot of imagery from previous G20's that might have scared people from going in. I guess the Mayor did not realise that cancelling 97 bus routes might have

Seems a lot of small businesses in the city been losing a lot of money as people been avoiding city and a lot of the city workers have also been staying away. Even in the suburbs this morning quiet and most shops closed. It does not help that being a public holiday small businesses would have to pay their staff a lot more if they were open. Went into a shopping centre and only shops open were the majors like supermarkets and department stores. All banks and post offices closed.

Obama's security attracting attention. Two days ago the Police Commissioner said no requests had been
received for any security details to carry their own weapons. Seems unlikely but naturally at the same time he indicated it was a sign of confidence in the ability of local arrangements. Making news was the fact that Secret Service wanted to demolish a roundabout at a University as the Presidents car (the Beast) would have to slow down to negotiate it. They were kind enough to offer to pay for the cost of removing and replacing it but Council said no thanks. Good TV footage of a helicopter (Osprey) landing on some vacant land next to main highway. Oops, as major dust cloud then rose up over the highway.

Seems the politicians are expecting a good boost in worldwide interest in Brisbane / Qld due to the focus on Brisbane G20. The 7,000 journalists outnumber the 6,000 police (including from other states and NZ - clearly Toddy too old for the riot gear !). Seems if going to be any trouble it will be tomorrow so hopefully all goes well.

So the answer to the $64,000 question "how much is it costing ?".

Only A$350 million ish !

Signing off for now.

Seven thousand journalists eating and living on their expense accounts - now that has to have a few financial benefits!

Oops.

Did not finish last sentence of para three which should have ended with "an effect".

Just had a first hand account of the major traffic heading north to the Sunshine Coast.

For our international readers about 100 km north of Brisbane is called the Sunshine Coast and to the south it is the Gold Coast. Must have been thought up by a guy in the tourism industry long ago.

Having to drive buses around the city for the last week I've seen all the all the practice motorcades, never ending cops everywhere, road closures, detours, and not being told anything until the last second and then that changing without notice, one has to ask why! what for!...the powers that be have scared the living day lights out of the locals for the last six months and then wonder why the place is a ghost town! Just a mob of know nothing pollies and hangers on getting a free holiday at the tax payers expense and talking a lot and achieving nothing worth while....what a load of BS! I wised up and took the week end off, after a visit to the TS shop tomorrow I'm going fishing... bugger the G20! :wink2:
Wayne.

Just so USA, UK and German members are kept updated on the significant news.

Obama is now known as Bazza, Cameron as Davo and Merkel as Ange.

Biggest motorcade so far 25 vehicles but no doubt Bazza will try to get the record.

That's not the spirit Wayne, sort of hoping you might solve some of the planets issues. Now I see all you want is more conflict so you can collect the TS's that represent it. So gone fishing is the answer, well than I will settle for doing another diorama for me to cop out. :wink2:, Robin.

As a side issue to the G20, I think the world and his blind dog know who shot that aircraft down and I totally agree with (Australian PM was it???) who said the appearance of Russian Warships in waters near Australia was 'puerile' . That sort of thing may have worked years ago but the world has moved on from that and won't deflect the fact that they want answers.

As for 'Davo' (^&grin) I reckon he's enjoying being PM right up to the last min, because he faces a general election in the summer!^&grin

You will forgive my scepticism, but what we have is huge mob of coppers who have gotten on their bikes................

Waiting for Vlad to arrive......

Who will be 'Shirtfronted' by the Mad Monk.....

While the Osbreys kick up dust....

And the some Sheilas go topless

But the laser lights look cool...

:wink2: Wayne.

Good summary Wayne :salute::

From what I have seen the most excited group about the G20 are the plane spotters hanging out at the airport watching the various VIP planes arrive.^&confuse now there's a hobby.

Well the main day for potential protestors was today with about 1,000 people from various groups marching for a few different causes. No incidents of note.

Those in law enforcement elsewhere might be interested to know the Govt banned possession of the following in a certain area :

Real or fake weapons

Metal cans and tins

Glass bottles and jars

Remote controlled devices

Eggs

Smoke or sound devices

Graffiti tools

However the one that impressed me the most was "Disguises covering your face" which includes the Anonymous masks seen so often elsewhere. If you can protest with a mask covering your face then more likely to commit violence as can not be identified. News showed a guy wearing one being arrested.

Davo was in Parliament yesterday and Australian PM had a good line about the original settlers being chosen by the best judges in England.

Best image of the G20 was seeing Putin at the leaders lunch sitting at a table on his own.

Also during the main photo ops he was placed on the end of the row and not in his usual central position.

Well done to the organisers who certainly seem to have gone out of their way to show him a warm welcome.
