Looks real good... I would watch it just to see the old cars and the suits and hats....Yep ! they had style in dem day's...the tomatoe's looked good too.....cheers TomB
 
Mickey Cohen was the mob kingpin of Hollywood for a time. There are a couple of really good bio books on him at amazon. A somewhat likeable rogue, having married into a Jewish family, I have adopted new heroes - Meyer Lanksy, Hiram Lernar and Mickey Cohen!!!!!!!! Why root for the good guys, the bad guys always dress nicer and have cooler cars, money and beautiful women!

I really like these type of crime movies circa 40's and 50's Los Angelos. I hope this new one is as good as LA Confidential or at least as interesting as Mulholland Falls. -- Al
 
Saw it and enjoyed it.

Although says based on a true story seems to be mainly based on the characters and the outline of what happened. Did not really tell what happened to each real person correctly or shall I say was misleading in a way in some cases (ie. the Police Chief, Dragna and even Cohen). In the case of the ending of one character it simply did not happen that way. The real story was interesting enough. Probably explains why at the end they did not say what actually happened to each real character.

Interesting to see Daryl F Gates as assistant to Police Chief in the movie as he himself went on to be 2nd longest serving Chief of LAPD. No prizes for guessing who served longer{sm4}.

Probably best to watch the movie and then Google around to see what really happened. The link I posted earlier is a good starting point. Then look up these guys on Wikipedia :

Jack Dragna

Jack Whalen (friend of cop played by Gosling) - Aussie actor played him.

John "Johnny" Stompanato sidekick of Cohen with the two MG's (interesting story about Sean Connery disarming him on a movie set).
