Gary Fournier's Roman Forts (1 Viewer)

This Saturday, my good friend and fellow veteran, Gary Fournier brought two of his Roman forts over to Bob W's house for us to see. Gary makes these for Toy Soldiers of San Diego in addition to many other items. These forts are unpainted but can be acquired painted from TSSD complete or in pieces (e.g., the Roman Gate, wall sections, etc.). This fort in 1/32 scale is based on the Roman Forts built along Hadrian's Wall to keep the wild, naked, blue-painted Pics (my wife's ancient ancestors, as I am fond to point out to her) out of Roman Britannia (away from my ancient more civilized ancestors).

The second Roman Fort is a marching fort that Roman Legions built at the end of each day when on the march. There are also Roman tents available (not shown) which can be set up inside the fort.

Thanks. They would look better with 54mm figures, larger figures might not look right. The first photo in the second post has a larger scale Elastolin figure; the other figures in the other photos are smallish Mignot 54mm figures.

Very cool! How does he make the gates and the palisades? Are they cast in resin, or does he make them from some other material?

The palisades are fairly light, unlike the King & Country resin backdrops that I have, so I am not sure exactly what they are made of. I'll ask Gary and let you know.

They are cast in 10 pound foam. The gates are resin. The original masters are made out of 30 pound pattern making foam (you can use wood working hand tools on it) by hand carving the foam, plastic, and wood. He also uses Durawood wood filler for the palisades ground cover mixing dirt, rocks, and sand for texture.
