Hi Guys,

Re Wayne's question about how to get that "stone" effect... Basically Gordon peels the paper backing off one side of the foamboard and carefully scribes the shape of the bricks or stones on the soft underside... Can be very time consuming but the finished effect is definitely worth it.
Hope this helps, good luck and best wishes,

Andy C.

Andy...he does fantastic work...and yes...it looks time consuming...but again...it is very nice...

I saw a technique in a video...where instead of individually etching each single brick by hand...

the guy took different sized paint brushes...
removed the bristles on the brush...
and then using the now empty metal casing that was left on the end of the brush...
he then pressed the oval shaped metal casing into the foam...
leaving a depression...
he alternated different sized metal casings...
and his work was very nice...and pretty fast...

tell Gordon to try that...if he has not already...

Wayne...I'm not a good enough modeler to carve bricks by hand...where Gordon obviously is one of the best...but this method has produced the best results for me so far...here are a couple of pics that might explain it better than I did...

yep, that's how I do it . NEVER THROW AN OLD PAINTBRUSH AWAY !!!!
remove the bristles and with some fine pincers give the metal casing the desired form ( irregular or regular for bricks)
If somebody is interested I can show you in the diorama section how to proceed

Great idea, but what sort/brand of foam board is suitable for the job?

Fascinating thread and much appreciated from a novice such as I , thanks for posting Andy. I suspect over coming weeks there will be a veritable Great Wall of China of brick projects on here as many of us have a go at copying Gordon's excellent work:salute::
