A few weeks ago I began work on my current project, Dragon's 1/35 scale LG40 7.5cm recoiless gun. This gun wasproduced in both 7.5cm and 10.5cm calibers and was extremely portable and lightweight. It was used extensively by Fallschirmjager units and saw some service with Gebirgsjager troops in the Caucasas Mountains.
The kit includes two LG40guns come with this kit along with 7 Fallschirmjager in various poses. Although the instruction sheet is not very well done, construction is fairly straightforward and the guns go together nicely with a minimum of filling and trimming required.

I elected to make one of these LG40s in Gebirgsjager service and here is where I am to date:

I used two of the figures from the Dragon Gebirgsjager 1940-41 kit, historically their uniforms and equipage will work in a 1942 Caucasian setting :

Here are the figures and gun with their initial base coats applied :

Here is the LG40 with the initial application of white wash added :

The Base -
Using styrofoam left over from an earlier project, I cut a chunk out of one corner in the desired dimensions:

Next, I carved out the basic shape and added outcroppings and additional boulders with scrap pieces of foam and affixed them with toothpicks :

I coated the surface with a Celluclay mixture pre-tinted dark gray :

That's where I am at this point, more pics as I progress.
Cheers,

RB: Interesting project you are making. I have those kits and maybe following your thread will get me inspired to make some Dragon kits. I still have some figure sets to finish painting. I am in a slump. Thanks for pics and instructions on assembly. John

As I said before I admire those of you who still have the patience to build models.......Looks like another cool project. Alex

Not certain whether it would be of any interest or additional knowledge, but thought I might just reference a page in my blog related to the employment of the LG40 by the Fallschirmjager during Operation Merkur (Crete 1941); http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2011-05-21T18:05:00-07:00&max-results=7

Interesting blog Jim! Hermann Goering Division used the 10.5cm as well, I have a few pics of them towed by Kettenkrad.

Looking forward to see this panning out
Mitch
