Giday everyone,

Why is Dietel carrying both field glasses and a ceremonial dagger?

Is Dietel attending a parade, but fears he will be assigned a seat far away from the action? Or is heading out for a night at the opera?

In some of the books with pictures of Dietl with his troops etc a number have him with a knife on his belt with pistol. Not sure if they are ceremonial but, I know some Waffen SS carried with them into battle their daggers. They were much sort after by allied troops for the workmanship and the engravings
