I have a couple comments and thoughts I'd like to throw out:

1.) I picked up the newest mounted Washington figure (AR44) a few months ago- what a treasure!! He is just superb and at $54. What a steal- especially with the mounties go up in price. He is just so primmed and polished and ready to give it to Cornwallis (who is equally resplendant as well)

2.) Operation Market Garden figures- now, I love the Red Devils and Lord knows those Red berets are it. Did they mix it up with the Nazis in them though?? The market Garden figures have guys in red berets and brain buckets. Being British, I know these boys are tougher than most and that guy running around the bocage with an umbrella, leads me to believe not only tougher, but definately not right in the head either. Was it the troopers individual choice to go tactical in red beret in lieu of their brain buckets?? Anyone know?? Seems a risky tradeoff- tradition versus protection.

Unfortunately, if memory serves, I believe there was a terribly tragic incident a couple years ago in Basra where some RD's were on patrol without their helmets and it led to disaster.

That's it for now.

Regarding helmet versus beret, I don't really know, but I'm guessing the fact they were wearing berets in Basra, was a confidence building measure with the local populace, and probably arising from a belief that the situation was contained in Basra. Its a bit startling when the full battle-dressed, armed to the teeth and camoflaged guys jump out from the side of the road for a routine checkpoint:)The same tactic was used in Northern Ireland in an attempt to normalise a bit more the frequent patrols around residential areas, when the situation there had been eventually contained also.

Don't have a clue why they wearing them in Arnhem?
