He was one of the funniest people I've ever met.

Best Regards
H

He was a fantastically clever writer who mixed humor with history (both real and imagined) to create very entertaining books. I'd never read fiction with footnotes prior to my first GMF novel.

Godspead, Mr. Fraser.

He was, and will remain, my favorite author. His wisdom and his humor will live on. Thank you, Mr. MacDonald Fraser, for a lifetime of adventure, humor, and historical information.

I started reading the Flashman books when KC released the collector figure. Very enjoyable, informative and fun reading. Was looking forward to Flashman's missing Civil War years. Next to Patrick O'Brian my favorite historical fiction author - Bernard Cornwell a close third.

Andy worked with his daughter, and actually got to meet him once over coffee back in the 1970's. Perhaps Andy will post the story of their meeting.

I posted this yesterday but it appears to have disappeared so I'll try again.

Due to my recent interest in The Crimean War range by K&C UK and the postings of some of my fellow froggers, I bought my first Flashman book yesterday.....'Flashman at the Charge'. I like the artwork on the front cover, a right smarmy so-and-so by the look of it :D

Will let you know what I think of it in due course :)

My response to your post was lost in the ether as well :D. As the commercial for Lay's Potato Chips went so goes the Flashy novels - you won't be able to stop at one.

The K&C Collectors Club figure of Flashman is fantastic as well.

Thanks, I thought I was going mad. I've been thinking about the figure, but I'm not a member of the CC. Over here in the UK we have 'Pringles'! just the same, why have one when the whole tube will do

Jeff

I've got all the Sharpe novels by Bernard Cornwell and he has praised the Flashman series, so should be enjoyable.

Jeff

Jeff,

I read all of the Sharpe's novels, and enjoyed them, but the Flashman series is so much better written and so much more wild and fun then the Sharpe series, there is no comparison.

Jeff,
I'll go allong with this post as well, especially on the CC Flashman figure. Wish Andy would do another one, but on horseback this time.
One of the good things about the Flashy books is that you don't necessarily need to read them in chronological order. You can pick up any one of them and get lost in his world almost immediately.
Not long to go now Jeff, then I'll be contributing to my "More Close Encounters of the Best Kind" thread in the Diorama section. A Flashman and the Dragon dio is being planned. I'll be starting it just as soon as I get home.

Cheers
