The SdKfz 2, better known as the Kleines Kettenkraftrad HK 101 or Kettenkrad for short (plural Kettenkräder; where Ketten means "chains" or "tracks" and krad is the military abbreviation of the German word Kraftrad, the administrative German term for motorcycle), started its life as a light tractor for airborne troops. The vehicle was designed to be delivered by Junkers Ju 52 aircraft, though not by parachute. The vehicle had the advantage of being the only gun tractor small enough to fit inside the hold of the Ju 52, and was the lightest mass-produced German military vehicle to use the complex Schachtellaufwerk overlapped and interleaved road wheels used on almost all German military half-track vehicles of World War II.
Military motorcycles are small in size, light in weight, fast in speed, good road adaptability, strong cross-country ability, and easy to conceal. They can also carry weapons, etc. Therefore, they are very suitable for reconnaissance, communication/liaison, and can also be used to charge and trap after carrying weapons. These advantages made military motorcycles widely used by the German army in World War II.Among BMW series motorcycles, the R75 motorcycle is the most famous. The weapon is an MG-34 machine gun (installed in front of the drag bucket) .The vehicle is equipped with more than 16,000 vehicles in the German army. It has won the favor of the officers and soldiers with good reliability in the battlefields of North Africa and eastern frontline under harsh conditions.
