Here are some pics from our trip to the 145th Reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg. Mrs. Phillips and I had a wonderful time.

Few highlights :

1) I had a smoke and great conversation with Gen. Longstreet CSA

2) I bought some King & Country Toy Soldiers from Larry Simmons of March through Time, A terrific Toy Soldier Dealer in Nevada.

3) We got to see some great Civil War Calvary charges !!

Enjoy !

Ron

I had no idea Elton John was an ACW fan
Seriuosly though I am simply quite quite green with envy I always did want to ask "Old Pete" Longstreet why the hell he never sent in those spare regiments to support Pickett's Virginians.

On my schedule for next year

Great photos and many thanks for posting

Reb

I have dealt with Larry before. He goes to quite a bit of the re-enactments. Has a tent there in the Vendor areas. Always has good stuff and sometimes great buys!

Looks like the weather was a bit cloudy! Not too hot I hope. Those bloody uniforms are hot as a Hades! Ashamed to admit it I was on a Union Arty crew! Many a poor Southern boy died at my hands.

At Church today we opened with Mine eyes have seen the glory(The Battle Hymn of the Republic) and closed with O Beautiful for spacious skys. A wonderful way to close a great and ultimately important holiday weekend.
God Bless Americas!!

I think you're lucky that General Longstreet didn't have the Quartermaster requisition that shirt as regimental colors. :D Man I have always wanted to go to a reenactment at Gettysburg. Must have been a great time. Maybe next year.

It was a big success this year. They did a lot of advertising for the first time. I've never gone because of the heat and crowds. I wonder what the actual civil war participants would make of it? The local PA cable station carries some great walking tours of the battlefield conducted by the Park Rangers. All from the comfort of my air conditioned living room. ;) A couple of years ago the reenactment coincided with the annual Gettysburg motorcycle week which draws thousands of bikers. Quite a contrasting crowd.

The temp wasn't too bad this year - in the low 90's - we stayed for about 3 Hours - then I saw the rain clouds coming our way and the overall temp drop about 15 degress - for us FLORIDA BOYS we know what that means

So we headed out and went into Gettysburg - while it rained !

Great day all around :D
