During a recent visit to the Gettysburg National Battle Field Park I found two CSA Whitworths, probably the most famous pieces of the war. Hadn't known these were there although I had visited the Park several times over the yrs.

The caissons and limbers are reproductions. The park has a "cannon shop."

That is one of my favorite battlefields to visit. I go with my son at least once a year! I'll have to look for these Whitworths on our next visit. I'll ask the guide we hire. They are amazing!

Great pictures! It always impresses me how well American battlefields are preserved and marked with battlefield monuments and guns.

Louis, I envy that you can visit every yr! The Whitworths are next to the Eternal Peace Flame Monument (unveiled and dedicated by FDR in 1938) on Oak Hill.

This 12 pounder Napoleon is in the museum and a good view of gun accoutrements.

Not to hijack the thread but if you guys get a chance, you may want to add the WW2 American Experience museum to your visit list in GBurg- it's AWESOME!!

I also apologize about going off topic a bit, but I agree that this is really a great museum! Jef and I have done a good bit of measuring and photography of vehicles and equipment there this year. This also happens to be where we are having our W. Britain Symposium this year…details will be posted on our website after the holidays.

Thanks for pointing this out. It's on my to-visit list for my next trip to Gettysburg (hopefully summer 2024), but I want to wait until the work on the Little Round Top is done.
