GETTYSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Officials in south-central Pennsylvania say an early-morning lightning strike at a camp of Civil War reenactors in Gettysburg sent five people to the hospital.
The Gettysburg Anniversary Committee said in a statement Sunday that at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday during a severe thunderstorm, lightning struck a tent pole in the Confederate artillery camp, resulting in moderate injuries to two people and minor injuries to three others.
The five were taken to Gettysburg Hospital, where an official says one is in stable condition, two people also said to be stable were treated and transferred to York Hospital, and two others were treated and released.
Re-enactment officials said a tent-by-tent search of the site by staff and local fire departments turned up no other injuries, and only three small tents were damaged.
