Gloss or matte (1 Viewer)

I just looked at the Britains Hospital and it looks like brick and stone on the corner sections. I like it better then the JG stuff so maybe I'll just get that one.

The corners are stone and the brick is under the veranda. Although it is not a complete building, it does give you a couple of options as the inside is very nicely detailed and also allows you to display the events that took place inside. Also some of the doors open and close allowing a bit more versatility creating a scene. I don't think you will be disappointed with it. I know I wasn't. :D

Of all the Mission Station Hospitals done to date WBritain's is the most accurately done with the exception of the placing of the doors and windows featured on the front of the building along with the number of polls featured holding it's veranda's roof based on the the plans drawn by Lieutenant Chard. It's by far the best available on the market to date and as I'm sure you've noted those who now own it are very pleased with it. JG and Conte based theirs on the Movie Zulu for both the Hospital and the Storehouse. Both of Trophy's building are far from accurate and Little Legions current take off on the buildings are also taken from the Movie Zulu. Imperial depiction of the Commissary Storehous is pretty much on target of all done to date. It'll be interesting to see what WBritain's planned Commissary Storehouse will look like. I'm sure some of you have seen photos of it without it tatched roof and unlike drawing by various artist of the Hospital it speaks for itself. For someone whose planning on venturing into the series and considering adding the WBritain Hospital to his purchases he can't go wrong........The Lt.

Thank you for all the help. My small collection of Zulus will soon be attacking my small garrison defending the Hospital.

Hi Scott,

The size difference between the Britains and Frontline figures (as illustrated in the Lt's image) is quite apparent:eek:.

To be honest, I am not sure why this should be so as both manufacturers produce 54 mm figures. I must be ignorant of something here.

In the Michigan Toy Soldier website, a 54mm figure is equivalent to 1/35 scale while a 56mm figure is 1/32 scale.

Sometimes, I see a 54mm figure labelled as 1/32 scale:confused:.

Would appreciate if someone can clarify.

Raymond:confused:

Hi Raymond

The new matte Britains are being made in the 56-58mm range so that is why they appear larger. Britains glossy figures have been kept in the 54mm range to fit in with existing collections. As for other manufacturers I have no idea. I guess there will always be the scale debate/issue.

Scott

Raymond if you spend some time viewing the Zulu War thread you'll find that the question of scale along with photos comparing the various figures from the Mfg's. who are currently proviing the period in Gloss and those in Matte as well as all of the questions you've been asking on the series. Scott Britain's Gloss figures are 1/32 54mm while the Matte figures are 1/32 56mm...The Lt.

Hi The LT
Great job on the Hospital. I will be getting Britains Hospital soon. I was wondering what you use for scenery, Primarily the grass or ground effects?
Thanks
Andy

Hi Scott,

Thanks very much for your reply.

This is a good reason to stay with gloss 54mm figures made by one familiar manufacturer.

My Zulu War collection is near all Trophy, save for 2 Dorset figures which I bought from Mr. Giles Brown.

Appreciate the helpful info, Raymond:).

Hello Lt.

OK ! will do.

I shall re-visit your thread ie: Trophy of Wales Zulu War once again.

Andy I use both Woodland Scenics and LEMAX mats for my ground cover. LEMAX offers from Their Village Collection the Moss Display Mat which 18" x 39". I use different sizes which became available to me when I cut various lenth to use for my shelving in creating most of my Photo Dioramas. The table which holds my layout of Rorkes drift is cover with Woodland Scenic Vinyl Mat which is available in a number of sizes and ground covers......The Lt.

Lt.,
I also use Lemax mats on cardboard... Do you have a problem/solution to the moss coming off? I do and the better half doesn't like it one bit! Should I spray a dilute of Elmer's on it. What do you think, my Lord General?

I'm having the same problem but don't have a better half to scold me. I'm currently addressing the problem to see what I can come up with for the best solution. The Elmer' diluted glue solution sound very promising. Your welcome my newly appointed Aide De Camp. I figure if my Lord General The Kilted Vampire has accepted me for his Aide De Camp I figured I'd offer the posiition to you as my Aide De Came 1879......The Lt.

Lt.
Why of course I accept! Gratefully your humble and obedient servant,
Mike
PS-I'll try the glue and see if it works

On that little mini dio I made recently it came with a bottle of "project adhesive" which I think is just white glue. The instructions said to dilute 1/4 oz to 3/4oz water. Seems to work and the scenery doesn't appear to be crunchy. I also have heard a lot of modellers also use hairspray for fixing down scenery.

Scott,
I usually use 1 part PVA (Elmer's white) to 3 parts water. I'm not going to touch the hairspray. Might get the nine's on my back! Plus, it crystallizes and becomes brittle on the small flocks of grass etc.... Thanks though...:)

Thanks for the info Mike, I never knew that about the hairspray crystallizing.
