Gentlemen,

I seek your opinions and thoughts please.

As you may know, my company, Empire Military Miniatures makes matte painted figures and has done for just over a year now, with the business growing steadily. We recently released a range of 24th Foot figures and I had the figures, pictured below, painted for me and only for me, as gloss painted versions of our matte range for my personal collection. (I have done the same with some of my ECW pieces).

My question is a simple one. Were I to release these figures as gloss (or indeed my entire matte range) would there be any interest or take up of the product? There is little point in my spending money on pieces for them not to sell, better I just keep my very exclusive ones for myself {sm4}

Please let me have your thoughts and comments. I only ask as someone passed the comment after seeing these figures in my collection the other day.

Thank you, Malcolm.

Hi Malcolm,

I love them. If you offered the glossy paint as an option I would be in for more figures. Especially if you venture into the British Raj. I am always looking for figures to fill out my Divisions to make the Durbar parade of 1903.

Thank for posting them.

Really hard for us to say. Many of us love glossies but I couldn't say if there's a market for them. I'd think the market in the UK is crowded.

Hi Malcolm,

Your 24th Foot figures are excellent! While I cannot speak for the entire collecting community, I can say I have a slight preference and a special place in my heart for glossy figures. For me, the motivation to purchase your proposed glossy figures would be entirely dependent on what range you offered. Presently, I am not collecting figures representing the Zulu Wars, but I do collect glossy figures related to the Durbar, the Samurai, the American West, and various glossy military bands. Further, I would be interested in glossy figures representing the ancients (Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, etc.) Finally, if you produced glossy figures representing the Aztecs and/or the Incas, I would be ecstatic.

I am not sure I have really answered your question, but I would seriously take a look at any glossy figures you offered.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

The Zulu War figures are very nice. But when it comes to glossies, I like traditional poses. I prefer marching, standing at attention etc.
I would love to see figures from the classic toy soldier era, 1890's -1900's British Army. You could do three poses for a unit;officer, drummer and soldier marching. I don't think anyone has done this type of figure in 60mm.
