Frontline made some really great glossy figures back in the 1980's and 1990's. Included among the Frontline glossy series I collected were:

Airwar figures, including various RAF, U.S.A.A.C., AVG, Luftwaffe and Japanese Navy Pilots, Japanese Navy Deck Crew, and even a really cool U.S. Army Air Corps. Glen Miller Swing Band with the Andrews Sisters as singers and officers swing dancing with some lovely British ladies.

Zulu War figures, with everything from personalities through Zulu and British Casualties.

The famous Crimean War "Charge of the Light Brigade" as well as other Crimean War figures (including personalities) which so effected Andy of K&C.

WWI Era Parade Ground Figures.

Victorian Era British Imperial Army Figures.

I have a complete set of the Japanese Navy Pilots, Deck Crew and Deck Officers out on display in the museum, and will take a shot of it for Brad to post. I will also dig out some of my other glossy Frontline Stuff as time passes and post shots of it as well. I know there are bigger Frontline collectors then me out there, so how about some of you other guys joining me.

Louis , if you get a chance, I'd love to see a photo of the Glenn Miller Swing band.

I don't have it anymore. The only people I know who have it are Jim Hillestad and a good friend of mine named Bruce Whitman, a retired U.S. A.F. B-25 Mitchell Pilot. I had also given Bruce my Glossy Frontline Memphis Belle Crew. I'll call him and see if he can e-mail Brad or I photos of these two sets.

I just e-mailed Brad a couple of photos of the Frontline Japanese Naval Air stuff, displayed with three old K&C wood warbirds (two Zeros and a Val).

Here they are. The Frontline Glossy pilots are very nice. I have a couple of the German pilots and they're great.

I usually don't think WW2 figures look good in gloss but those pilots look really nice.

I asked Gordon Neilson to build me a diorama of a a piece of Japanese carrier deck, on which I intend to display these Frontline figures, the K&C Kamikaze Pilot (also depicted) and these K&C Japanese Planes.

Some Zulu war pics would be highly appreciated as well.

I'll be happy to post some when I dig the figures out of storage, but it may be weeks rather than hours or days. I still haven't had time to try to dig out my missing K&C stuff from the two rear storage doors, and finding the Frontline stuff will have to wait until I do that. However, I do have a mounted Sir Colin Campbell figure and the color party of the 93rd (Sutherland) Highlanders from the Crimean War (Stand of the Thin Red Line) in a dresser draw on one of my guestrooms (don't ask me how they ended up there). I'll pull them out and e-mail Brad a shot of these later to post.

I decided to give this thread a bump before it gets "archived".

The first post on this thread was about two and a half years ago on 13th April 2007.

Here is a link to the Crimean War British sets by Frontline Figures.

I am still on the hunt for some of these retired gloss sets.

Best Regards, Raymond.

I think you can really see a lineage of design, as it were, with the earlier King-White figures, in the early Frontline series.

Prost!

Raymond,
King White, better known as Reeves was a toy soldier distributed in the 1980s. It was unique b/c at the time, it was in MATTE! finish which was not common during that time. As a kid, my Dad would bring me them regularly from trips to New York as a reward for something or another. I still have them today and have since bought nearly the entire catalog, i am down to only needing a few pieces and literally have a huge amount of duplicates in my quest! Anyhow, another interesting coincidence is the relation to K&C, there is a connection to the figures and early K&C.

Anyhow, email me and I can send you some images so you can see them.

Hi Tom,

Thanks very much for the helpful information on King White/Reeves.

I am beginning to appreciate the size and variety of your personal collection.

You must have lots and lots of figures.

However, I am curious about the connection with K&C.

I shall email you soon.

Thanks again, Raymond.:)

I have a number of the glossy Frontline pre-WW1 ceremonial units and would like to have more. Just bought the FFL band at a reasonable price on eBay . . . .I've lusted over that one for years! Now to get some FFL and HLI infantry to go with the band and color guard at a price I can afford on retirement pay!

Hi Glossman, It's nice that you brought this thread back to life. Below are a few photos of a Frontline set: Russian artillery during the Crimean War.

Finally here they are together. Actually I was disappointed with these sets and other Frontline glossy figures which I'll talk about later. I was more naive back then, still pretty naive. So, years ago, I saw these sets being sold by a dealer on the net. He was one of the first. I thought they'd be a great addition to my Crimean Britains figures. As it turns out they're not the same scale and so I couldn't add them to my Britains Crimean diorama. And so they spend there days apart sitting on a piece of furniture guarding the hallway.

Now the other one figure sets, mentioned above, are not the Crimean War. Because they're too big for the other sets I have they're doing duty collecting dust in a cupboard. When I find them, I'll take a photo or two and post the 'mystery' figures :).

Hi Russell,

You are most welcome.

The Frontline glossy figures are not highlighted as much as the matt ones.

To avoid the scale issue, I have converted most of my modest Crimean War collection to Frontline glossy.

Thanks very much for posting the great shots of your Russian Arty.

Best Regards, Raymond.:)
