Since I collect British Army glossies, these guys are all a little "off-topic" for me. The story is a oft-heard one, that a friend of mine who collected toy soldiers with me lost interest and I ended up mingling his collection with mine. His was a bit more eclectic than mine, thus I ended up with these sets, but not a lot of info as to their origin; guesswork is involved.

I'll be grouping them in a following thread, as all the (admittedly marginal) photos would tend to fill the page of a single message far too full for convenience; I hope this is OK with all who look.

Lastly, I am looking for glossies of just about any period of history of the British Army. I favour band and marching sets, though am certainly open to diorama sets. Appreciated here are everything from Britains through Imperials, Frontline, Traditions, Blenheim, older K&C. I am, however, limiting myself to glossy finish. Particular wants would be the Britains King's Troop RHA gun set brought in a few years ago, some more Blenheim Zulu War figures to flesh out my basic set, marching modern Guards (w. bullpups) to grow the Guards Division a bit, all in all, I'm pretty easy to tempt!

I'd love more info on what these are, should you know more than I (which is quite possible!), even if you have no interest in actually acquiring them, and will also cheerfully entertain offers to buy, should you feel you have no swapping fodder. I'm afraid Paypal didn't work out for me; not as secure as they profess, I'm afraid, so MO's will have to suffice if buying. I am in the US, so would like to limit things to US domestic mails, though I can be open to overseas dealings if the mechanics stay simple enough for me to grasp.

Anyway, I hope this is at least interesting.

Thanks for looking.

First up are these:

DCP02962.jpg

Believed to be St. Petersburg made, I don't know by whom or if even the St. Pete info is wholly accurate, but a set of the Czar's Palace Guard, circa 1890-1900. No marks on the bases, no set-box was supplied but received wrapped inside a standard ol' cardboard shipping box.

Next, we have these:

Believed to be Russians from WWI, displayed opposite these:

Which look to be the opposing Germans.

By the bases, Id judge them to be by the same maker, again believed to be St. Pete's of some stripe...

These were displayed together representing the Defence of Port Arthur during the Russo-Japanese war.

These have PZ scribed under the bases, so Potsdammer Zinnsoldaten is the guess.

Meanwhile this artillery crew...
DCP02969.jpg

And these Japanese Naval Infantry appear to be of the same maker, judging by the bases...

The flag staff is in two pieces pinned, such that it fits in this box, the only box for these guys that I came into possession of (another clue as to origin).

The label says "1905 Japanese Naval Infantry QS-284.3"

I know this string might be somewhat clumsy, so please pardon me if this isn't the most convenient way to show these.

Once again, I can't be sure myself (due to admitted ignorance on my part) that my assumptions regarding makers is correct. Clearly I'm guessing at this point, so any enlightenment would certainly be most welcome.

Anyway, if any interest, please feel most free to PM me,

Thanks to all, whether for information on these sets or proposals.

Best,
Sarge

Ah, wisdom. It looks as if I have these grouped a little incorrectly, as well. I had no idea there was an artillery piece with the Russians, however I believe I have it as well.

It would also appear the Russo Japanese pieces are also from the same range, looking at the Lead Army site.

Great tip. Thanks so much!

Thanks to all those who generously contributed to my knowledge, it looks like we have the following, then.

From St. George's Cross/ Lead Army we have:
#2912 Russian Artillery Troops w. 107mm gun 1914-18
DCP02984.jpg

If this 75mm gun is substituted for the 107, we'd have set #2911
DCP02985.jpg

We have set #2902, Russian Infantry Troops Combat Set 1914
DCP02983.jpg

Set #2931 German Army Infantry Troops (Officer set) 1914
DCP02982.jpg

Set #2843 Japanese Naval Infantry Troops (Flag Standard Set) 1904
DCP02977.jpg

Set #2820 Russian Army Artillery Troops w Putilov Gun 1904. An anomaly from the photo on leadarmy.com is that these are wearing white tunics.

The Czar's Palace Guard remains a mystery

and the Russian Infantry (1904) set, marked PZ on the bases, is still assumed to be Potsdammer

I believe we have everything now matched up as it should be. Thanks again to all for the help; lets see if I can find them all a new home now.

After matching up all the right guns to all the right crews, thanks to Viriato's tip, we're left with this one. Any idea as to the type & nationality?

Then, of course, who possibly did the model itself?

If interested in these, but not interested in trades, I'd ask $700 for the lot. Offers cheerfully entertained for all or part.

Somehow I don't feel very wise when it comes to collecting toy soldiers, I just feel like I am 8 again:D:D:D:D.
On the tip, you're welcome, glad to help when I can.;);)

Ah, Paulo, mate!

You might not think so, but you solved clearly a great mystery for me. I've wondered about the origins of these for years. Even if they don't appeal to someone here, I can certainly appreciate them more, not to mention I have the groupings squared away now.

Many thanks, indeed!

Also, many thanks for all those who have wandered through what now is probably the most cobbed up "For Sale" listing ever seen here!

...a nudge, for they do look quite lost amongst the British Army of the Curio Cabinet.

Please, do not use flash when photography your metal soldiers, we cannot see very well.

Regards
