One of the more obscure WWII fighters I think, added to my display. Chris

Nice Chris. I have one that K & C made a few years ago. I will see if I can post a photo later.

And I have the older K&C version from the 1990's, as well as two Heco Tinplate Models versions from about the same time. One squadron actually flew those dinosaurs in the Battle of Britain, and three famous Gloster Gladiators were critical to the defense of Malta.

The Gladiator saw quite a bit of combat in WW2, being flown by the British, Finns, and Chinese, among others. Saw a lot of use early on in the MTO. British RAF ace Pat Pattle flew the Gladiator in combat and is credited with 15 victories while flying the Gladiator. At least 10 RAF pilots achieved ace status in the Gladiator, while 2 Finnish and 2 Chinese pilots also reached ace status in the Gladiator. Osprey has a title in their Aircraft of the Aces series titled Gloster Gladiator Aces by Andrew Thomas. Quite a neat and under appreciated fighter aircraft. -- Al

Here is the older version of the K & C Gloster. This one was sold via Old Toy Soldier Auctions a few months ago.

The one below is mine.

The bottom model (your's) is a beauty Brad. And your photography is much better than mine. :salute:: The aircraft modeled in my pics is of Malta defender Faith. the survivor and now museum displayed. Chris

Thanks Chris. Probably got lucky with the photography as it was just an iPhone. Yes, the plane is really nice as is yours.

Here are some photos of my three Gloster Gladiators, the wood one (with the blue and yellow markings on the top wing) is an early K&C, the two tinplate ones are Heco Tinplate Models:

Great models, Louis. Love the airborne aspects. Ever done an actual count on the size of your air arm?:wink2: -- Al

The South African pilot Marmaduke "Pat" Pattle was the top Gladiator ace with 15 victories with the type.

Can you imagine getting 15 victories in this plane? Wow!
Could not find what armament it used and where it was located...
pods under the wings?
.303 MG or 20mm cannon?

The Gladiators carried 4 .303 Mgs, 2 synchronized guns carried one on either side of the fuselage, and 2 unsynchronized outside of the prop arch in under-wing pods, one under either wing. -- Al

We have Pat Pattles Gladiator coming into stock soon, only 5 of them!

According to the Osprey book, the bottom aircraft, IYK #L8009, is the aircraft of Flg Off Peter Wykeham-Barnes of 80 Squadron, out of Sidi Barrani, Egypt, in Aug., 1940. -- Al

The Heco Gloster Gladiator MK I, is from the first batch delivered to the RAF, in the markings of 33 Squadron, stationed in Haifa, Palestine in 1939.

The Heco Gloster Gladiator MK2 is in the markings of the Hurricane MK1 (UF-K P3886) flown by Flying Officer Carl Davis of 601 Squadron, Tangmere, Sussex, in July and August of 1940.

601 Squadron was never equipped with Gloster Gladiators. The only squadron with Gladiators that participated in the Battle of Britain was 247 Squadron, stationed in Robourgh, Devon.

There's an interesting clip of the three Gloucester Gladiators that took part in the Air Defence of Malta during WW2 ( planes were given names of Faith, Hope & Charity), on youtube;

Link below - it's just over 5 minutes long - and is a bit contrived - but you see some small bits of the planes being uncrated and a few flying moments too. jb
