Just a small shelf display I created recently. I wish they had Facebook accounts back in this time period. Not really sure what they would be hashtagging but it would interesting to know what the general public really thought of the Crusades. I'm sure they all thought that this was some sort of phase and not to be taken seriously long term. Did they think the world was going crazy then? I cant be the only one that thinks people have taken things far too serious over an idea or theory that isn't proven.

Great setting-I'm assuming the figures are still on their bases, just buried into the dio ?

I'd reckon that some folks wondered about the Crusades the same way that people are scratching their heads today over the slaughter of French cartoonists, western journalists, aid workers, World Trade Center Towers full of civilians, Police Officers, and Soldiers for perceived insults against someone's religion...
...jes sayin'...

Awesome display Chris! Thank you for all the pics, I thoroughly enjoyed them all.
As far as the mindset of the populous, most medieval Europeans had a healthy fear of God, whether proven or not. Most who were able jumped at the chance to heed Pope Urban II's call in exchange for cleansing of sin. The time is a fascinating study to say the least. In a nutshell, Europe was whipped up into a frenzy over the proclamation of the First Crusade and ensuing recruitment tours. It seems these were times of rampant superstition. Commoners and nobles alike held what they believed to be their eternal souls in paramount importance and above all other matters.
