All,

Yes, the time has come! The wife and I will be in Philly, NJ and NYC mid April for a visit. First time visiting other than Ft. Dixx, NJ...ugh. Staying with a war buddy in NJ outside of Philly and then off to NYC to visit some friends from Japan. Staying in Times Square with the wife to check out the sites. Going to see a show, got a Limo Manhattan Tour booked and bringing an appetite. Tried to squeeze in Boston, but that won't happen. So, anyway going East and was wondering about Toy Soldier Shops to visit! Is White Castle still out there?

SIDE NOTE: I lobbied hard for Boston and the wife said was wondering why? I told her that would could go visit Harvard University, ZB Lang and George. Here is how the conversation (on a trip to Austin in the car) went and this is for reals:

W: Why would you want to visit a college?

JFT: It's not a college it's HARVARD!

W: I would rather go see where the Tea Party was at.

JFT: Like the Boston Tea Party? As in the Battle?

W: Yes, where the ships are at.

JFT: Honey, the ships and the tea are not there anymore, that was a long time ago. It's not like you go to Boston Harbor and they battle it out for the tourists to see.

W: I DIDNT THINK THERE WERE RE-ENACTMENTS! ARE THERE RE-ENACTMENTS AT THE ALAMO EVERYDAY?

JFT: No, but you said "The Tea Party and where the ships are at" there are no ships floating around the Harbor with tea packages in them.

W: I DIDNT SAY THAT!!! Besides what we do at Harvard? Go to class? A college is not a tourist destination!

JFT: It's not a college...ITS HARVARD! Like a few Presidents have gone there and yes it is a tourist destination (I connect to Wifi and look up "Top Places to Visit in Boston") LOOK, see Top 10 Places in Boston to see...#1 Freedom Trail...uh huh I can take you to see all the historic sites...#2 Faneuil Market Place...

W: Is that a mall? I'm not going to a mall!

JFT:...Dont interrupt me...#3 Fenway Park...you want to go to a stadium and do what? There won't be any games going on in the morning...you want to stand outside the gate or something?

W: (inaudible)

JFT: #4...uh-huh...HARVARD UNIVERSITY AT CAMBRIDGE...Look there is even daily tours you can take...Trip Advisor says that it is better to take then tour than just walk around...

W: Yeah, that's what you would do...JUST SHOW UP...like an ******* and go to where...admissions? Huh? The Library-

JFT: NO, there are Museums and stuff...HARVARD is like the oldest university in the States...historical....I mean C'MON MAN its HARVARD.

W: That's gay you go on a tour of a college-

JFT: OMG, okay I'll just take you the Tea Party battle and you can watch the ships blow each other up.

W: NO, I didn't think there were ships floating around with Actors on it and fake cannons-

JFT: Yes you did-

W: NO I DIDN'T-

JFT: Yes, you did-you probably wanted to float around in one-

W: NO, theres probably a museum there you can visit

JFT: I don't want to go there...I want to visit HARVARD

W: Where not going-

JFT: Why? Why NO all of sudden? I tell you what...we'll visit ZB Lang's law office-

W: Who's that?

JFT: Toy Soldier friend-

W: What are you going to do JUST SHOW UP? You don't know him-

JFT: OMG we have bought and sold toy soldiers to each other for years and he's on the forum...nice guy...I would call ahead of time and ask to meet for lunch or somehting. Maybe even George-

W: George? What if he's in court...you can't just SHOW UP....

JFT: I WOULDNT JUST SHOW UP! Like I would just go to his office unannounced...I don't even know where his office is at!

W: Well you don't know what his schedule is like-

JFT: I KNOW...THATS WHY I WOULD CONTACT HIM AHEAD OF TIME!

W: No...NO Boston...

JFT: Your just mad there are no ships floating around throwing out Tea bags and ****...with cannons

W: Your just mad 'cause you don't get to visit your little friends.

JFT: OMG he's a grown man, a fellow collector and a super nice guy...He may even come to Texas and you could meet him. How would you like to meet a guy that you dissed while in Boston. When he gets here I'm telling him.

W: Go ahead...you just want to SHOW UP be like...SURPRISE I'M HERE...

JFT: OMG!!!...okay I'll take you South Boston so you can see all the Irish Gangsters...how about that? Drink some whatchamacallit "Ale"...uhhhh...Samuel Adams

W: Were not going to Boston...

JFT: FINE!

Now, gents this is a true story. This is just one part of an entire conversation, it is too exhausting to tell the rest.

Ps, the tea party ship actually is there! Floating around just waiting for you to board!

Mid-April only? If you're here through the last weekend, you could visit our MFCA show, on the 29th. We're in a new location, just off the PA Turnpike on Route 1.

Prost!

Don't go anywhere near Boston unless your intent as a tourist is to visit traffic and sit in it for hours. The traffic around Mass is god awful even by the standards of the east coast. I see a lot of east coast drivers where I live. I rank those from NJ as the worst, but closely followed by Mass and NY. Don't go near it if you value your life.

COMBAT!

I do value my life and I don't due traffic jams...I find them to be the biggest waste of time. I know you have probably been to LA and those jams are awful. Fortunately, we will be walking in NYC since we will be staying in Times Square. We do have Limo service and will be on a 5 hour Limo tour of Manhattan. I don't know which day, but it should be neat. This is our first trip over there, so we are kinda excited! But, I know I will have to exercise some patients.

Thanks for tip Combat.

Umm, John, are you sure you're going on a holiday???

Tom

My wife and I recently drove to Austin and we also had a conversation that was toy soldier related:

PA: Can we leave Austin a little earlier so that I can go to Kings X today?

W: No

Why are staying in Times Square. That's the area of the City I'd least like to stay. Too touristy for me.

Times sq. is touristy, but if you've never been to NYC, it's probably touristy that you're looking for

As a native New Yorker, its fine to walk around there but to stay there, no thanks.

John,

If you would like to get together with some of the New York area collectors, I will host a little event at my house, kind of a mini-symposium. If you are interested let me know what days you are in New York.

Louis

Gents,

TomNT: Well it's got some business attached to it...super secret concrete stuff y'now. My wife and I banter like that all the time and I love her for it! Our back and forth is like something out of David Mamet play..."Are we talking about it? Or we speaking about it?"

Panzer Ace: Yeah man, I feel you. "Kings X" is a bad word in my house. But hey my wife and entire family have been there!

Jazz: Why Times Square? Well we are going to see Chicago, the Memorial and some other sites, but I did not book the hotel that would be the wife. According to the trip advisor the Hilton GI has "3 Elevators!!!" with (3) !!!'s behind it. I guess more than one elevator is the bomb or something. I wanted to stay at the Ritz-Carlton but when I saw the room rate I was like OMG! So, in order to fly first class and had to give up something and accommodations were first to take the hit. All in all, anything better than a fox hole in Korea is plush and anything better than flying in the belly of a woobly C-130 IS first class.

TSB: Ummm, no-no naked cowboys for us. Seen freak shows in Santa Monica and well...a lot of LA is a freak show...nice town though. Seen the freak shows in Vegas and now on to NEW YORK! YEAH! HOWEVER, I will be spying for some White Castles. I remember those a pee-wee in Detroit. I also have to have one of those street hot dogs!

ZB: I TRIED man...I TRIED to get to Boston. You saw the exchange below!!! I should have told her there were ships floating around with tea bags in them...y'know like a ride at Six Flags. My bust.

LOUIS: I am honored at your invitation! Wow! Let me run through the schedule with the boss this weekend while on soccer trips to Corpus Christie and Killeen. In the mean time, what part of New York are in and how long of a drive is it to your locale? Lemme know kind sir. Wow!

I have heard that Tommy Lugers has the best steak in NYC...any thoughts?

John from Texas

Smith & Wallensky on 49th & 3rd is one of the best steak restaurants in the world, not just the City.

John,

Just because you want to see Chicago doesn't mean you have to stay down there; NY has an excellent transportation system and is very easy to get around. Whenever I travel I never stay downtown but somewhere off the beaten path.

Brad

John,

Don't worry about the travel issue. We will pick you up at your hotel and get you where you need to go.

Well, I'll stay in Yonkers next time! This time I guess we are going to be Jerry from Tom and Jerry in the "Mouse in Manhattan" episode.
