I have found some nice realistic wooden shingles for modeling...
they seem a pretty close scale for 54-60mm figure compatible roofing...
they are "1/2 scale" genuine cedar shingles and they measure 3/8" wide...
which is a pretty good scale for my figure collections...
the bag says..."100 pieces"...I circled it in red...
but this is a misprint...there are actually 400 pieces per bag...
a quick look at the picture of the bag shows there are well over 100 pieces in it...
at $5.85 a bag...they are close to 1 1/2 cents per shingle...
these are the best shingles I have found for this scale...
in my pictures...is an old building that I made with Hirst Art Bricks...
I threw my roof away and replaced it with this one...
each side of this roof is about 12"s x 6"s...
it took about 330 shingles per side...almost a full bag...
they paint up pretty nice...
so this roof has about $10 worth of shingles on it...
I like the product...so I thought I would share it with you guys...

here's a link to them...but they are also on Ebay and many other websites...

Looks good Mike. I like to use 1/2 scale products when I can. They go well with 1:32 and 1:30 scale.
I just recently put a new roof on a scratch made building and used sand paper. Try it, you'll like it but you'll have to measure and cut them out.
Stay well my friend.

Hey Nick...that's an interesting technique...sounds like it would be pretty durable...is there any benefit to a particular grade of sandpaper grit (50-100-200)...I'm guessing you just "white glued" them on...I would love to see a picture if you find time...you don't have to set up a diorama...just a picture of the roof would be appreciated...

That's a good idea, sandpaper. It would look like asphalt shingles, in the right scales.

Have you also looked at Hansa Systems USA? Here's their URL:

http://www.hansasystemsusa.com/index.htm

They make scale building materials, in 1/35, though primarily for late 19th century-20th century European subjects. I haven't tried any of their products yet, though. I'm not ready to build a 1/35 brick wall, brick by brick. But they look great.

Prost!

Brad...I have always liked their website...especially their models...I pilfered an idea off there for a building I built...I'll show a picture of my copy in a bit...

Very nice! Has a Middle Eastern look--is that its ultimate use? You didn't construct it block by block, though did you? That'd have been some work!

Prost!

No...I didn't buy his blocks...I made mine out of foam...and while it's not an exact replica...you can certainly see where I got the idea for mine...mine is finished...but I need to re-work my ground work...I went "too green" and need to add some more sand before it's finished...all in all..I still like it...

Mike, I"ll take a photo of the finished roof soon and post it. Not sure of the grit, it is a fine sand paper and I used the last of it on the roof so I couldn't look on the back of the paper to see the grade. I bought a bunch of assorted sandpaper at a dollar store a while back. Talk to you soon.

Here is the sandpaper roof which I recently finished on a 1:32/ 1:30 scale Building.
The individual shingles can be lifted slightly to make them look more realistic.
