I got some of these trees from Hobby Bunker and I was surprised the price was very reasonable and I simply made a base with clay..........then painted the base and added some texture to it from scenic express....
Being into model trains, I forget that there is a bunch of stuff out there that people just don't know about. You are quite right! The Grand Central Gems trees are nice quality and very reasonably priced in the US. Even if you don't have a toy soldier shop locally then any model railroad store that orders through Walthers can get them.
